The Backside Coffee House. Well bless me, Fanny!

What a grand place. Heard of it? In the barn, Mon., Tues., wed. 8-12. What a fine atmosphere it has. .Atmosphere? in the barn you say? Simply through the use of mellow recorded music, tablecloths, 5¢ coffee and hot crossed buns and candle light!

A place to meet people on your own terms. The cata- lyst is the candle light: it s3ems to draw people closer together around the table. It illuminates like no other light, softening features and conversation. The sound system is beaut- iful, Doug's own, two large clear speaker units. There a broad selection of con- ‘tinuous recorded music, varying from folk, to jazz to mild rock. The music is at just the right level. Just enough so that you can actually speak to the per— son next to you and be heard. Loud enough that you can listen to what the art- \ists are playing and saying Artists including, Jose Feliciano, Joni Mitchell, Nitty Gritty Dirt band, Chicago, Roberta Falck, and many others.

The Backside is certainly a welcome alternative to "the Hop" (G.J.'s), the Jolly Knight, the Pig and Whistles and even the Hotel There's an opportunity here to move outside the heavy social games of the other clubs, the potential is here to really meet an— other person, to hear their voice, to see the features of their face. The music isn't like other places, not obnoxiously loud and appressing but thoughtful exciting and well selected by Doug.

All the enjoyable qualr ities are incomplete with- out the most essential quality — people, friends, lovers.
