Headstones to rock Apothecaries tonight

I could come across as being out of touch, but I had no idea of who the Headstones were when I was asked to interview them. This lead me to one slight problem, since I had never heard their music, Ihadn’tasweet clue of what to ask them. Thankfully Chris Corrigan, the founder of Direct-Current acting as booking agent for Apothecaries, had an entire portfolio full of

Headstones' stuff.

Included in the portfolio was the Head- stone's album Picture of Health, and must say that I totally dig the hard rock style of this band. The Headstones have a screw-the-world attitude and with lyrics like ‘‘O my god I'm gonna die/I’m not scared/I’ll tell you why,” listeners can easily pick up on it

When I read the press release for the Headstones, I couldn’t help but think that this was a band full of arrogant pricks. With statements like ‘‘Club owners draw up letters to the band complaining of kicked-in dressing rooms and failing objects’’ and, "landlords bitch about ‘finding’ their buddies inebriated in hallway,” I couldn't help but have a tainted view of the band before I even met them.

After waiting for almost an hour the phone finally rings, and a deep voice on the other end says ‘‘Hello, this is Hugh Dillon from the Headstones,’’ and the interview be- gins. After we shot the shit for a few minutes, I soon realized that this guy was not nearly as bad as I was expecting, actually, I found him rather interesting.

Dillon explained to me how the band was formed. He said that instead of trying to find a band which he would enjoy watching and listening to, he decided it would be better if he just make his own band, so that is what was done, four long-time friends came to- gether to form the Headstones. For the past five years they have been playing music which lead singer Dillon describes as ‘‘pseudo-nihil- istic.’’ ? Of course I had to ask him about the cocky attitude which many people receive from them, Dillon considers the Headstones more confident than cocky. What's the diference?, Dillon explaines, the band works

hard at what they do, the writing, the playing- - they are not about to give the audience a bad show. To a point, the Headstones are allowed to be sure of themselves, otherwise they wouldn't have an album out and another on the way. .

Sometimes, Dillon says, that he has to step back from it all and take a good look at everything to make sure this is all really hap- pening. He feels that the band has worked hard for so many years, and every once and a while he freaks out when he realizes that all their sweat wasn't wasted on nothing. -

So now the Headstones are on tour, promoting their second album which they are hoping to have out by the end of February. The first stop is Apothecaries tonight, and out of curiosity, I had to ask Dillon what he was expecting, and the response was, " As long as there aré'more than eight people at the bar, and’ I know they like our stuff I know that I will have a great time preforming."”

Random Dolmens open at 10:00, and the Headstones will take the stage at 11:00. -- Grace Kimpinski
