Tue Newfoundlanders do Church bazaars, etc., on a big scale. St. Patricks Church bazaar, recently closed at St. John’s, the pro- ceeds being $10,000. Lotteries were the principal agency. The St. Andrew’s Presby- terian Church was opened on Sunday the 30th ult., and $900 were taken at the morning and evening collections.

Exrortina Sueer AND Lamps.—Last week Mr. Edward McDonald and Mr. L. McGrath sold two hundred sheep each to buyers from Boston, and Mr. Kane also disposed of about two hundred to the same parties: Hayes & Layden shipped two hundred to the States on their own account. This week, Patrick Mce- Donald will ship five hundred, and Kane & Murray are making up a sbipment of four hundred for the Boston market. — St. John Sun.

Awyruracitg From America.-—The Ameri. cans are threatening to send supplies of an- thracite from Pennsylvania to Europe, and the Frechh Vice Consul at Philadelphia re- ports that experimental shipments have shown that it can be transported and sold at a profit in France at from £1 to £1 4s. per ton. The anthracite beds of Pennsylvania are said to cover an area of 350 square miles. —T'imes.

Trietere. —The wife of Mr. ‘Michael Mc- Grath, of New Canaan, Carleton Co. N.B,, pre- sented her husband some few days ago with three male children. ‘They were to have been baptised on last Sunday. The matter will be be laid before the Governor General, whose lady, it is understood, intends to follow the precedent ef her illustrious mother in pre- senting the mother of the babes with £3.—

To Vistr St. Joun.—The St. John Reform Club have engaged D. Banks McKenzie, the great temperance speaker, for a short season, commencing on Thursday next. We notice that in addressing a public temperance meet- ing in Halifax on Wednesday night last, Mr. McKenzie said. ‘“The general opinion abroad was that St. John, N. B., St. John’s, New- foundland, and Halifax, were the three most rum cursed cities in the world.”
