Orrawa, Oct. 23—The trade returns for ;September show exports valued at $16,599,088, being an increase of $3,964,- 042. This increaee is a general one, consisting af the products of the mines, lumber, agricultural products, and animals and their products.

The imports forthe month are valued at $12,057,115,—an increase of $727,020.

The revenue increased $99,874.

The increase in the exports for the last quarter, over the same period of Jast year, amounts to a total of $9,254,914. The imports, however, are )ractically sta- tionary.

The duty collected in the laat quarter shows only an increase of $83,000.

Srrixcrigtp, Mo., Oct. 20-—Raymond, the tweive-year-old son of A.D. Allen, stenographer in the Circuit Court, went to school carrying a stick of dynamite. The explosive, which the boy had found in a stone quarry,wasin hie pocket with a knife, top and marbles and a number of other things common to boys pockets. In get- ting into his seat the boy banged his pee ‘ket against the desk, causirg an explosion whic h will probably cost him his life and which wes heard for two blocks. Trextox, N. J., Oct. 20.— Matthew Cunningham, of Nova Scotia, came to this place to better his prospecta,and fell in love With Mrs, Reed, of Virginia. They became engaged. T uesday morning they were married, and the party started for home. The morning train pulled into the station, the conductor ehouted “all aboard” and Cunningham ran and jumped aboard and yelled “Good-bye, sweetheart, good-bye.” The bride became hysterical. She cannot account for the desertion.

Maprip, Oct. 21.—A despatch “received here from Leyte, one of the Philippine Islands, savs tvat place has been almost devastated by a cyclone. The cyclene destroyed the towns of Tagloban and Heruani, on the Island of Leyte, as well as severai villages. It ie estimated that 400 persons lost their lives through the disaster. The latest advices from Manilla say the cyclone occured on Oct. 12, and that Burugo, on the eastern coast of Leyte, has been wiped out, and that an immense wave swept inland, engulfing villages. Several thousand natives perished at Tagloban. The cyclone also swept the island of Samaru.
