Tuesday. The captain reports that in latitud 50 north, longitude 9.10 west, he passed, on the 13th inst., at noon, a quantity of

Betrast, Wepnespay.—The ship ‘‘ Wan- lenah,” of Pictou, Captain Wilson, which arrived here last night, reports the particu lars of a melancholy shipping disaster, re- sulting in the loss of five lives. I[t appears that on Saturday morning last, when the *€ Wanlenah” was about 115 miles W.S. W. of the Fastnet, a suall beat was observed at @ great distance off; and on bearing down it was discovered that an var had been put up for a mast, with an old coat fora sail. Liverroot, Wednesday.—The ‘‘ Hurin,” at Liverpool, reports that on January 10th, in a heavy gale, she fell in with two boats contaim- ing seven of the crew of the barque ‘‘L. D. V. Chapman,” of St. John’s. After leaving Quéenstown the captain and four others were drowned. One of the men in the boats was disabled, and could not be got on board the *¢Harin.” Other versels were in the neigh- borhood and might pick him up. 4
