Possibly if all citizens took as much inter- est ip the young men of the town as these gentlemen do we would have lessof our boye going away or figuring in undesirable company when at home.

The Engineers’ will hortly give an entertainment ofa military character to help in defraying the expense of their school, and witbout doubt our citizens will aceord them a bumper houee and will in returo receive a pleasant evening’s ainusement.

Tribute to a Deserving Teacher.

The semi.annual examination of Dar- lingtop schoo] was heldon Wednesday, the 18th inst., aod was an event crowned with succes3. We are very much pleased with the progress our children are makiog un- derthe direction of their teacher, Miss Mary Campbell, who, ever since she gredaated at Prince of Wales College, five years ago, has performed her duties as teachtrofour ecboul. She has done her work faithfully, ;atlieatly and successfully, aod we sre greatly pleated to say her ef- forte have not been in vain. After the children were examined in their work during the past eix months,a programme had been prepared by the children. I might intimate tbat thia is a part of the ¢Xamibation we always look fcrward to with great pleasure. Among the recita- tions given was one worthy of especial men~ tion recited by Margaret Campbell. It was both enlightening and elevating to the miods ofall who beard it. Both old and young were alwaye pleased to hear this young lady either read or recite, as she e1 ways brings before the mind a vivid mean- ing of whatever the When the programme was ended, presents were distributed to eli the children. Mr. D. E. Campbell, Mr. McPhee, and Mr. J. R. McLe.d then addressed the teacher and echolars with both jovial and suasive language. At theclose, Mr. Jobn Me Lean, of North Wiltehire, whose children have been attending here for the past year and a-half, and who are genera] favorites throughout the district, treated the chi - dren with candy.
