A Correction.—The figures published in ‘Lue EXAMINER last evening were, it appears; @ little inaccyrate, thoygh the totale were vight, In Ward Two west there were 44 ballots for the petition, instead of 34, while in Royalty West there were 29 ballots for the petition, instead of 39. But the total of 635 was correct. The Patriot's addition is wrong. Instead of adding up 675, the figures make for the petition 685, which, subtracted from 690 against the petition, leaves a majority of 5, instead of 15. Montreat, Nov. 25. Railway business here is booming and so great has the traffic become that it is the intention cf the Canadian Pacific to double the capacity of their freight rolling stock. They will build between this and next year four thousand box cars and two hundred locomotives. In order to do this, large shops will shortly’ be built im the east end of the’city with a capacity for turn- ing out ten cars daily. This will giye em- ployment to 2,500 men, st cai iaereeeas The Irish Land Question. Lonpon, Noy. Michael Davitt, in fa speech at Carlisle to-night, declared that the Irish alone could settle the land question with the landlords. A Hanpy Extixevisaer.— An exhibition of the Household Fire Extinguisher was given last night on the north side of Market Square, by Mr. B. E. P. Creighton, the agent, where a pile of wood standing against a wall of twelve foot boards, saturated with oil, was ignited: It made a hot and fierce fire that leaped up about fifteen feet in the air, anl after giving it time to burn well, Mr. Creighton, with the aid of hig little extinguisher, pyt out, the fire in about fifteen seconds. The machine is of copper, halding about six quarts of water, inta which three ounces of bi-carbanate ol soda are put; into the bottle, screwed on to the cap, two ounces of sulphuric acid are pnt, and when that is screwed down tight into the cylinder it is ready for use. It can be charged in one minute, The principle is well known to the chemists. The above compounds, when mixed, form a gas called car nic acid gas, which destroys the oxygen, and the fire is boung to ga oyt, |t Ws certainly the best extinguisher we have seen, being so easy to work and simple in construction; and well deserves the name of the Household Fire Extinguisher. It should be adopted by every

one.

A SuooTine AccipENT,—Says the Halifax Herald: ** A sad accident ogcurred at Wood- ville Village, Hampstead, Queen’s County, on Thursday afternoon, the 17th inst., at James W. Stult’s. His youngest son, a lad of 15 or 16 years, was handling a breach-loading gun in the house, and examining the shell which was loaded and in the barrel. On closing up the breach the load discharged. A number of the shot passed into the arm of his father be- low the elbow and some 14 shot lodged in the arm ofa young man named Richard Me. Creaily. Several others of the family had but a few moments before passed out of the course of the charge. McCready is lying in a very critical condition. Much sympathy is felt for the snfferers, and the accident of so serious a nature has cast a gloom over the community. This is another lesson of the danger of allowing firearms to be handled by young and inexperienced perso: s.”
