Dear Mary Haworth: I en- joyed very much the recent ex- change of readers' views. con- cerning the pros and cons of toy guns for children.

I was surprised and relieved to learn from the testimony of the majority that toy gun play is only a passing phase with children, who seem to drop ll of their own accord around age 10‘or so.

We. have a baby son not quite a year old and I had meant to keep toy guns away from him. Now I‘ll get him one for his birthday or Christmas.

Your column really helps my husband and me in raising our boy. as we. both come from very small and often too close families. Sometimes We wish our parents had had mor e children tI am an only child and my husband is one of twot: it would have given them more to worry about don't
