MINISTERIAL CONFERENCE.

The businees of the Conference on Satur- day was unimportant; and a number of the visiting ministers and laymen went driving into the country to enjoy the beautiful scenery and the perfect westher.

Nearly all the Protestant pulpits in the town were occupied by Methodist clergy- men. Able and elequent discourses were delivered. We have only space to-day for the following summary report of Rev. Afr. Harrison in the Second Methodist Church :

The text chosen was ]f Cor, 13, 9-11. The preacher said : “This ie an age of stir, of intense activity. Ce:tain partics account for this on the ground that faith in God is growing Iss. ‘This is thetolution turniah- ed by the abounding scepticism of to-day. We do not deem the soluicn satisfactory — it is contradictory to the facts. See the sucial questions the church of Gud is grap- pling with to-day as never before ;

1. Intemperance.

2. Slavery.

3. Heathenism.

Whence the agitation, stir and restless- ness regardiug these to-day / Is that faith is waning / Or is it thatthe vision is get- ting clearer / There can be no doubt as to the answers. Faith, sympathy, !ove—all elements that con make this world better are strengthening as the years sweep by.

The Church no lopger stands on the outer rim of the world’s great needs look- ing on them from a distance, but is throw- ing herself, by her multiplied agenciee, right into their midst. Tais makes the agitation of to-day’

The iustitutions that biess aud elevate hamanity are Christian. At the First Methodist church, the Rev. Mesare. Frank Frizzle, George M. Young and J. B. Gough were ordained ministers of the Gospel.

In the afternoon, there was a Sunday School service, ia “hich six Sunday Schools were represented, viz: First end Sccond Methodist, Zion and St. James’ (Presbyterian), the Baptist, and Kensiagton Hall (Methedis*) The presence of well nigh a thousand chilldren, full of yourg life and happiness, was delight- ful; and the music was excellent and in- spiriog. Mrs. Harrison eang, beautifully, the anthem, ‘'] will extol Thee, eh Lord.”

— After singing, Rey D Chapman led in prayer. ev C Hi Paisley presented « peport from the committee appointed to consider # doc ument from the Nova Scotia Conference. The object of the document was to have a committee appointed to prepare matters of eneral interest for the general conference. he subjects indicated were the supernu- merary fund, the book-room affsirs, and other matters It was recommended to ap- point a committee by the conference of 1803 to attend to this matter.

Rev W W Brewer »unounced that the reception committee extended aff invitation tothe members of conference and their friends and hosts for # sai] on the river from 3 to 6 o'clock in. the sfternoon. Oo motion of Dr. Sprague, the conference very cordially accepted the invitation.

Rev J Shenton presented the pastora! address for the year. [t was a very super. ior one, aud treated of temperance, Sab- bath observance, personal religion, Sunday schools, and kindred subj-cta.

It was unavimously decided to accept the same. Kev. J. Shenton then presented the report of the Supernumerary Fund. It

This shows an inerease of 2 41 on the year. The following districts have a eur- plus in their assessment of ten cents per tember. St. John three conte, Miramichi, five dollors and ninety-one cents, and Sackville forty one dollara and eighty-five cents, while St. Stephen is twelve dollars and eighty eight cente below and P. E. Is- land is filty-eight dollars and twenty-one cents. At ll o’clook the further consider ation of supernumerary ma ters was teken up. <A general covversation took place re- lative to some districts not raisicg their full assesement Revs. 0. H. Paisley, E. Evane, fF. W. Harrison, H. Denice] and others urged that each dis:rict ought to raise the full assessment.

On motion, after a long discussion, per- misaion was given tothe P. E. Island and St. Stephen District to meet to arrange this watter.
