The Baltimore Orioles widened their lead over New York Yankees in the American League Saturday.

The Orioles divided a twi- night doubleheader with Detroit after Cleveland had defeated Yankees 6-4 in 15 innings.

The Orioles won the first game 6-1 and lost the nightcap 3-0. The split increased their lead over the Yankees from two percentage points to one game.

In the National League, first place Philadelphia and Runner- u San Francisco each lost. leaving‘the Phillie: one game ahead of the Giants.

Bob Chance drove in the win- ning run for the Indians in the 15th as Cleveland beat the Yan- kees for the first time this sea- son after eight defeats. He then scored the last run on a squeeze bunt. E arlier, Chance had singled home two runs in the sixth to tie the score at 2-2. Milt Pappas pitched a nine- hicter and helped win his own game for the Orioles by drivmg in Baltimore's first two runs in the opener, against the Tigers with a single in the third inning.

Lefty Mickey Lolich blanked Baltimore with five hits in the second game. Gates Brown knocked in all three Detroit runs with a single. double and triple.
