SACSHL Votes To Abolish IO-Cents Head To Visitors

MONCTON (CP)- The Atlantic

Coast Senior Hockey League Sun- day voted to abolish the 10-cents- a-head subsidy which has been awarded visiting teams in the Am- herst. Charlottetown and Frederic- ton rinks. , The move was brought about by ?an Amherst request to be excused from the arrangement because of financial difficulties. M o n c t o n Hawks had Lcen excused from pay- -ing. or collecting. the subsidy be- 'fore the season started.

Jack Benety of Fredericton. first vice-president of the league. termed the move unwise because he felt the subsidy to visiting clubs has always been the salvation of ...iy sports organization, and that such an arrangement usually is benefi- gcial to all concerned in the long run.

PLAYOFFS FEB. 14

Feb. 14 was set as the date for opening the ACSHL playoffs. with the semi-finals to he best-of-nine affairs and the finals best-of-seven.

In the semi-finals. the first place team will meet the third 111386 team. with the second and fourth place clubs playing the other semi- final.

Palladino and Danny O'Connor de- ferred until playoff time. It was agreed that the fines should be paid in weekly installments over a period of the next four weeks. FOUR POSTPONED GAMES

It was also decided that all post- poned games. four in the league so far. must be played before Feb. 12. the last scheduled date before the playoffs. Clubs involved were instructed to work out convenient arrangements among themselves for the playing of these games.

The matter of referees for play- off games was discussed but no :le- cision" reached. Choice of officials iwill be studied further at a later date.

In the case of match penalties. the league clarified its jurisdiction and that of the governing MAHA. .stating the league has the power Ito rule on match penalties other lthan those assessed for striking game officials. in which case the MAHA reserves the right to hand down penalties.

Tn a motion to limit the power of league president T. Babbitt Par- lee, the Islanders were also de- feated. The Islanders proposed that a four-game suspension and 375 fine. with right to appeal. be the maximum penalty impcsable by the president.

Hawks Edge Ramblers 3-2 Lorne Watters Gets Brace

Hawks edged Amherst Ramblers "3-2 in a regular Atlantic Coast Senior Hockey League game here Saturday night before one of the largest crowds of the season. - Lorrie Watters put the Hawks ahead with two quick goals near the end of the first period. Tod Campeau made it 3-0 for the Hawks at the 3:10 mark of the second period. Paul Saindon put Amherst into the scoring column at the 14:15 mark of the second period.

The teams played it close in the third until the 18:20 mark when Peanuts McLaughlin received a penalty for cross-checking. Lou Riley of Ramblers pulled his goalie in favor of another forward and with 10 seconds to go. Shermie White picked up a pass and drove it intoxthe net. Ramblers kept pressing but time ran out.

The win moved Hawks to within six points of first-place Charlotte- town Islanders. .

The Ramblers will carry two men that have not appeared in the -purple and white colors of the Amherst men on local ice this season. They are center Jackie Leclcrc and net- mlndcr Ray Frigon from Montreal.
