Although eagerly pressed to confide to Inez the exact nature of her quarrel with Max, Florabel steadily refused.
It was quite a revelation to Inez to hear that Max had left her in bitter anger, vowing he was going away, and vowing that he should never look upon her face again, and that she had gone quietly away, believing that she would be more than unwelcome in Mrs. Forrester’s home after Max had left her.
Inez never told her that Max re- turned, and finding her gone, and her letter there. was under the impres- sion she had eloped.
