Srr,—lIt is not my intention to notice the enynymous serbbler who accuses me of ignorance of a question. that I will under- take to tell him mere about than probably he is aware of or would care to hear, pro- vided he has the manlineas to come out over his own signature; but I shali not notice any further cowardly attacks. In my letter of the 26th inst., I made certain statements which fam prepared to stand by, and I. challenge “ Vindex,” or any other political hanyer-on, to contradict tiem in any one particular. It is all very fine for irresponsible creatures to tell the people of Belfast and surrounding districts that the Dominion Government has paid the Local Government for its expenditure on these wharves since 1873, but will such an argrment satisfy the intelligence of the Belfast district, or save the Brush Wharf from sinking further into the mud, if not immediately attended to? I repsat my previous statement that the people do hold the Local Government responsible for allowing their interests to be neglected in this matier.

Zera and Bells Royal Marionettes Delight a Large Audience.

(From St. John Telegraph, June 5.)

Ons of the most amusing performances ever given in St. John delighted a crowded honse at the Institute last evening. Fer two hours the laughter was uneasing. Zera has always afforded satisfaction in the past, but his present exhibition is far ahead of anything heretofore presented. So far as his own part of the programme was con- cerned, he elicited large applaus? a; each feat of mystery vas performed. The marionettes are woaderful triumphs of mechanism and something entirely unique. They give an entire minstrel ‘‘first part,” with jokes, songs, etc., and are really capi- tal. The dancing skeleton is a marvellous thing and the wonder is that human in- genuity could devse such an intricate piece of work. The pantomine was another good feature, and it may be safeiy said that the entertainment is much in advance of anything of the kind ever given here. At the clese, about 149 presents were distri- buted among these holding numbers, the articles comprising flour, hams, lamps, albums, castors, glass sets, boxes of note paper and toilet svaps, purses, dressing cases, and toilet sets. The tickets wore all placed in a dish for the purpose of award- ing the dinner set 84 pieces and porcelain chamber set of 10 pieses—a little girl drew out the numbers, the former set falling to Chas. Delay, of Peters Straet, and the chamber set to A-d.ew Tafis of 196 Duke Street. A lke wumber of presents will be distributed to-.ight and at the matinee to- morrow ev:ry child is to receive a priz>, besides wiicu a tea set will be gieven away.
