Ar Hatr-Past three o’clock this morning a barn in the rear of Mrs. Thomas Dawson’s a Grafton street, was discovered to on fire. The alarm was quickly given and Rollo engine was soon on the spot. She played from a tank on Grafton street and succeeded in extinguishing the fire in less than three quarters of an hour. One side of the barn is completely destroyed. The fire originated from a pile of burning weeds and shavings which were carelessly left in a garden alongside the barn.

James Wricut, a native Coolie of St. Helena, and a seaman on board the barken- tine ‘‘Ethel Blanche,” made some insolent demand of the steward of that vessel— Thomas Michael—at noon to-day. An al- tercation ensued, and Wright drew a sheath-knife—the blade of which is six or seven inches long—and stabbed the steward through the muscle of the left arm, in- flicting a large and ugly wound. Wright was arrested on a warrant. The wound

was stitched and dressed by Dr. McLeod.
