THE NEW GENERAL COUNCIL:

I will take this opportunity to introduce all members to the 1983-1984 General Council who will diredt the affairs of the Trust in the coming year. They are:

EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM: (Prepared by Rosemary Curley)

The Trust is working in conjunction with the Prince Edward Island Natural History Society and the Eptek Centre to present an evening lecture series on the interactions of man and nature on P.E.I. The program is entitled "All The Living Things" and will run from September 22 to October 27,1983. The speakers and topics are as follows:

The presentations will start at 7:30 P.M. ROYALTY OAKS:

Continued success was enjoyed this summer with the silvicultural thinning of another acre of the immature section of the woodlot. The wood from this thinning will be removed in the near future and it is hoped that the nature trail will be completed by mid to late October. At that time, a public tour of the trail will be offered.

NEW MUSEUM ACT:

The new Museum Act, passed during the recent session of the Island Legislature, should be of special interest to members of the Trust. It foresees an increased priority for natural history in museum interpretation for the province.

Essentially, the Act transforms the Heritage Foundation into a provincial museum of man and nature. The name has been changed to the Prince Edward Island Museum and Heritage Foundation, and the purpose is expressed thus: "... to study, collect, preserve, intrepret, and protect the human and natural heritage of Prince Edward Island for the use, benefit and enjoyment of the people of the province."
