An Irish Landlord and Uis Tenants

The Earl of Rosse has issued a circular to his tenants in Tipperary and Queen's County, in which he promises to do his share in finding remanerative work for the people, should distress arrive during the winter trough want of employment. He also engages to make atlowances in the half-quarter’s rent duo November 1st for drainage, building, fencing, or any such improveruent approved by him before being undertaken, and which shall be completed before the rent-call next spring. Lord Rosse aids: ‘“‘] amanxieus to say to my tenants how gratified [I feel that in no single instance have they shown any dispo- sition to lend themselves to the political agitation which has disturbed the country for some months, and which, if continued, can only end in causing a separation of in- terests which ought to be identical.”

What of fine dress your people insist on yonr wearing., take and wear prettilly and proudly, for their sakes; but, so far as in you lies, be sure that every day you are laboring to clothe some poorer creatures. Aud if you cannot clothe, at least, help with your hands. You can make your own bed, wash your own placa, brighten your own furniture— if nothing else. ‘‘ But that’s servants’ work?’ Gf courso it is. What business have you to hope to be better than a ser- vant of servants? ‘‘ God made you a lady?’ Yes, He has put you, that is to say, in a position in which you may learn to speak your own language beautifully ; to be accurately acquainted with the ele- ments of other languages ; to behave with grace, tact and sympathy to all around you ; to know the history of your country, The commands of its religion, and the du- ties of its race. If vou obey His will in learning these things, you will obtain the power of becoming a true “ lady,” and you will become one if, while you learn these things, you set yourself, with all the strength of your youth and womanhood, to serve His servants, until the day comes when Ha calls you to say: ‘* Well done, good ani faithful servant ; enter thou into the joy of thy Lord.”

she knows more; she knows how to have-

smiles ready in the midst of her toil, and sometiiues hercare siniles for husband and good humor for her friends. ‘The tears are all her own, and almost all that she can well nigh call her own; for a woman will cry at things, that men pass by with indifference; and if slie keeps her tears to herself, surely they are her perguisites—her privileges. All these cipabilities and soothing powers are expected, aye, and found in a_ woman. Women ever have, and. ever will have, if they do their duty, these duties to perform; and to do them with cheerfnl patience and a siniling face is the best charm for con- sistancy. Can wo fancy man, only for one day, in their position! The servants would all be dissharged, the childrenwhipped and sent to bel, and himself by nigktfal just fit for Bedlam.
