the newspapers begs that the members of the jury which tried O’Dennell will con- fidently communicate with him, as he desires to address them upon a matter of extreme urgency He says all other means of com- municating with them failed, as he was refused a copy of the panel of the jury before the trial. He has been unable to ascertain their identity since.

Trouble in the East.

M. Passhitia, the radical leader in the Skuptschina, and twenty other radicals who were implicated in the recent revolt have been summoned to appear before the Judges at Reachar for trial on the 16th inst. Most of them, however, have escaped into Bulgaria. Twenty of the rebels who were condemned to death in November have been repri¢ ved.

A Voltaire newspaper urges the Chamber of Deputies to pass a vote of confidence in the Government in order to strengthen it against the intrigue of China. DeLesseps has telegraphed to the Eyyptian Govern- ment that the alleged arrangement with the shipowners relative to a second Suez Canal, amounts at present simply to informal negotiations.

The Tribune continues its expose of frands committed in the Department of Public Works, giving additional facts in regard to the contracts for street improve- ments, In all cases contractors are shown to profit enormously by reason of mislead- ing estimates prepared by the Department.
Irish Troubles.

Nine persons have pleaded guilty to the charge of censpiracy to murder Martin Lyds.., Uonnemara, county Galway. Pat- rick McKeowan testified that before the murder of Mrs. Smith the prisoners met in a barn and formed an assassination society for the removal of tyrants and bad land- lords.

Lonpon, Dec. 10. The brig ‘“‘Joseph” of Queenstown, from Charlottetown, P. E. L., lost ,bulwarks and stanchions, and sustained other damage. The brig *‘ Archie,” Newfoundland, to Bilbao, put in at Vigo. She jettisoned part of her cargo and is leaking.

Fishing Vessels Lost.

hibitions, yet we have the temerity to ask} the Government to name Charlottetown as, the place to hold the next Dominion Ex- hibition, thus compelling thirty-nine) fortieths of the people to come to an Island an extreme part of the Dominion with their exhibits, Have we the building for such anexhibition? Have we hotel accomo- dation for three hundred people, much less for the many thousands who should attend.
We are ever asking for something out of all reason, and, of course, get nothing. One day some genius suggests that we ask the Dominion Govériment to assume the liabilities of the Bank of P. E. Island, again another proposes that we be satisfied with nothing short of a tunnel under the straits; and now we have others asking to have the Dominion Exhibition held at Ciarlotte- town.
Now let us as a people give up this non- sense, Let us simply ask the Government to carry out the Terms of Union, by giving us the necessary steam communication with the mainland, and also represent that inas- much as we are isolated from the rest of the Dominion, and find it difficult to get our exhibits over (or the rest of the Domin. ion to get here) would they not grant us a sum towards a good local exhibition, seeing it would be inexpedient to give us our turn in holding the Dominion Exhibition here.

The New Railway Time Table.
Sir,—Superintendent Coleman, of the P. E. Island Railway, deserves the hearty thanks of the people of Prince Ekward Island, for the comprehensive notice of the winter arrangement of the trains, published in Saturday’s Examiner. It is the first intelligent and intelligible table ever issued in connection with our railway. Hereto- fore, even those who gave attention to the
subject, found it difficult oftentimes to get a correct idea of the move- ment of the trains. Sometimes one
might commence at tho top of the table to gain information as to the starting of certain trains; other times he must go to the bottom and read up; again, it would be necessary to commence in the middle and go up or down. It was often the result of deep brown study to tell which was right; and yet again he must commence near the bottom and go both ways. The whole of the arrangements were a muddle and a jnmble to the greater portion of the public. Those who were adepts at difficult puzzles, and in decyphering hieroglyphics, found pleasure, no doubt, in solving the difficult- ies of the tables; but to those who valued time and wished to put their brain power to other usrs the tables were a source of more than annoyance. But, now the public has atime table which any person who can read can comprehend, The whole story of the movements of trains is told as plain as the letters of the alphabet and the numerals can tell it. “He who rons may read.” A feature not common to railway time tables is also given in the columns showing standard railway time, and common or ordinary time. The idea is an excellent one, and Mr. Coleman de- serves additional praise for having enter- tained it. Those who now miss trains have only themselves to blame, Youra, etc,, PASSENGER.
