WNITED STATES FINANCES.

Tue receipts of the United States, Gov— ernment for the past month have practi- cally offsetthe expenditures and thedeficit for the present fiscal year will ‘be left in the vicinity .of $30,000,000 at the close of the coming month which will round aut that period, The receipts from customs will slightlyéxceed those of last year. For the eleven months ,comipleted. they have

reached $154,000,000, while for the .* last fiscal vear, they ag- gregate $160,000,000. The receipts for

the coming month may reach $15,000,000 although the recent orders for imports in excess of demand because of the threat- ened retrospective features of the tariff bill may reduce the figures somewhat.

The internal revenue receipts, now $133,-

000,000 ar? not likely to quite reach the total of last year, $1 46,767,865, because of the prospect of a reduction in the tax upon distilled spirits. Upon the whole the financial position of the United States Government is not improved. Certainly a change is needed. What of the future and the results of the Dingly tariff?
