Samort, WANNAMAKER, the self-confessed forger, was carried on a cot to the courtroom at Yongstown, Ohio, on the 27th ult, and sentenced to one year in the penitentiary on each court of his indictment, cr fifty years in all. Wannamaker, who is forty years old, is dying with consumption, and confessed that he committed the forgeries in order to save his father’s estate, which was involved im litigation.

Oats.—The St. John Sun says during the past month bet ween 5000 and 6,000 bashels of oats arrived at Carleton from Carleton Connty. these oats were principally for the city trade, aithough several thousand bushels have recently been shipped from the city to lumber- men up the bay, Very small quantities of P. KE. Island oats are arriving here in con- sequence of the low prices prevailing. The island merchants intend to ehip their oats to England.

Matco.m McLerop, of Big Iatervale, Mar- garee, ©. B., went out shooting on Tuesday last, and shot a cariboo. The next day in company with Kenneth McKay, he went to bring it home. When they arrived at the place where it was shot, they saw no less than twelve carriboo. They sneceeded in shoot- ing six of them. A large moose was also seen, but it made its escape before they could get within shooting distance. Hugh Morrison and Kenneth McKenzie shot two cariboo on Friday last in the same locality.

Lirtte Rock, Ark. Dec. 6,

At 10.30 to-night, a passenger train on the Little Rock Mississippi River, and Texas Railway Company this way, when three miles below Little Rock, was ‘stopped by five masked robbers, who switched the train, took complete possession and went through the passengers, about seventy-five persons on the train. All were ordered to hold up their hands, and the robbers went to work. They broke open the express safe, and, according to reports, got $2000, besides obtaining from the passengers, in watches aud money, $4000 more. They disappeared, after enforcing a promise from the passengers, not to leave the train for ten minutes. A strong posse, headed by detectives, is in pursnit.

, The Standard’s Shanghai despatch says it 1s believed the orders to the Chinese fleet to attack the French fleet aud relieve Kelung, are only a blind. It is not believed that the Chinese will risk the loss of their fleet in a naval battle. It is believed that the fleet is really intended for attack on Saigon or for some similar operation. The pay of Germans on board the Chinese fleet includes an indemnity of 5000 taels to their relatives in the event of their being killed.

A Counterfeiter Caught. Winnipec, Dee. 6. An Italian named Guiseppe Fugiani, who lately arrived at Winnipeg from Minneapo- lis, was arrested on Thursday afternon with a truak full of counterfeit coins in his pos- seesion. The coins were dollars and half dollars, also some nickely, and amounted in wll to five hundred dollars. It is under- stood that Fugiani is one of a gang operating from Chicago, French Senate Reform. Paris, Dee. 6. The Senate has rejected two amendments to the Senate Reform Bill, one of which proposed the election of Senators by uni- versal suffrage direct, and the other to elect them through delegates. M. Ferry strongly opposed the first amendment.

Wasnineton, D. C., Dec. 8. The Washington monument was com- pleted yesterday afternoon by setting in place the marble capstone and its pyramidal apex of aluminum. The monument, with its total of 550 feet, far overtops every other structure of human hands.
