Letter to the Sports Maestro, Mr. McCarron:

I would like to know if you have ever watched a hockey game in your life? You certainly don’t know much about the game. You must have been a little bit out to lunch when you stated Rob Pearson could take Rick Tocchet in a battle. Tocchet could spit on him, and then flick him over with one finger. I suppose you think Doug Gilmour could beat up Bob Probert. You’re a joker!!!

What’s with this Toronto Maple Leaf, Wendel Clark Column. There are other teams in the NHL, if you weren’t quite sure. Nobody wants to see a Maple Leaf article every week. Why don’t you get away from your biased attitude, and do something interesting, and maybe a little realistic. Instead of writing an article that looks like you wrote it about 10 minutes before press time.

Anyway, I thought it was time somebody told you about your misfortunes, for actually gloating about the Leafs. Maybe, if you bang your head on your Maple Leaf wagon, you will wake up and start using your head. It would probably be better if you didn’t write anything about hockey. And if you wish to write about this great sport, ask someone who knows it, to give youa hand. Rob Pearson? That is definitely funny. What a joke.

Dear Editor,

This letter is written in response to the constant harassment of women and men on this campus by individuals who call them- selves Feminists.

We, the undersigned, are Humanists, not Feminists, because a gender-specific orientations automatically discriminatory and hierarchial. No more proof of that is needed than the fact that Feminists are using the same tactics against women (and men) who don’tagree with them, as men have used against women in male dominant societies. They claim to be for equality, a gentle social environment, and harmony; but they are fiercely patronizing, and discriminate against all who don’t agree with them. They are aggressive and confrontational, and they foster polarization between groups of people with different points of view.

The most recent example of all of the above is their attemp prevent students (women and men) from watching a PG ra film, which they have managed to portray as controvers Their authoritarian attempts to permit viewing of that film o1 on the condition that viewers be enlightened by a femir critique of it states that a)others cannot form valid opinion: their own, and b) that others are so weak-minded that tl require the maternal protection of these people -- who plai see themselves as moral authorities and everyone else’s int lectual superiors.

We find all of that extremely insulting, and object to su attempted violations of our Academic Freedom, not to ment violation of the rights guaranteed to us in The Canadian Char of Rights and Freedoms. However, their confrontational, gressive, paternalistic politics, can be thanked for one thing have underlined for us all why Academic Freedom is the m basic principle university, and just how important this is argue that one or another group should control everyon opportunity to explore, to learn, and to teach. If there is: standard to be affirmed in this instance it is respect for evé! one’s right to freely acquire knowledge and to develop their 0 set of values.

And this principle has been working very well for women, by accounts. Simple count the number of female graduates ff Prince of Wales College and St. Dunstan’s University to se¢ number of women in ‘‘conservative’’ Prince Edward Island

have managed to distinguish themselves without adopting $ base tactics as have inspired us all to write and sign this le!
