When the Sundry Civil bill passed the House of Representatives, Washington, it contained a clause authorizing the employ- ment of two extra watchmen at the War De- partment. This was barely three weeks ago. On the 18th inst. the two men were selected from a list of 1,135 applicants. The salary is sixty dollars a month.

Tue Chief Justice of Nova Scotia has deliv- ered a judgment upholding the validity of the Dominion License Act in the city of Halifax. Two parties have been convicted by the Stipendiary of selling liquors without license. They appealed from the conviction. The Chief Justice affirmed the convictions of the Lower { ourts, with costs.
