43 Bills Receive Royal Assent ‘As 65 PEL Legislature Closes -

Forty-three bills received Roy- algAssent from Lieutenant-Gov- ernor W. J. day morning, and the 1965 ses. sion of the Prince Edward Is- land Legislature came to a close

Prior to His Honor’s arrival, legislators gave third reading to six bills and approved the re- port of the ee accounts committee.

Before entering the legisla- tive building, the Lieutenant Governor inspected a guard of honor composed of Island mili- tary units and attended by the band of the P.E.I. Regiment.

to assent to the 43 bills and when he had left the chamber, the legislators, after their six week session threw papers and books in the @ir in jubilation

While pre - session predictions were that little legislation would ‘be introduced at the session, the reverse was true and a heavy load of bills was introduced in the dying days of the session.

Some of the major, and most interesting, piefes of jegislation were the repeal ofan act prohi- biting the sale of margarine in the province and a new act set- ting regulations for the sale of the butter substitute; an act dncorporaing Industrial Enter- prises Incorporated, a com- pany to promote industrial de- velopment; an act setting up a provincia! water authority that will have powér to control pol- fution problems; and an act that will permit county court judges to perform marriage ce- remonies.
