In L865, during the debate on confeder- ation, Hon. George Brown, as reported on page 105 of the official report, said :

New Sr. James’ Cuurcu.—'This edifice is fast approaching ~o completion. The painters are engaged upon the interior, and the minor appointments of the building are being provided. It is expected that the en- tire work will be finished on the Ist Octo- ber next. The Church will be opened for public worship on either the 13th or 20th ult. Full particulars as to the services on the occasion, and pew arrangements, will be made known shortly. The church is an ornament to the town, and reflects credit upon the enterprise of the congregation and upon the taste of the architects — Messrs. Sterling and Harris.

A large and influential meeting was held at Fifteen Point last evening. Arseneault addressed the electors in French. Hodgson and Kelly followed, reviewing the issues of the contest. Perry next spoke, amid con- tinued interruption. Hodgson replied in a telling speech ; and Perry withdrew from the meeting. Hodgson’s_ allusion to Arseneault’s refusal to join the Davies Government was received with repeated cheers. The meeting closed with great en- thusiasm, voting unanimously for Howatt and Hackett—who are sure of a solid vote at Fifteen Point and Egmont Bay.

The nominations throughout the Pro- vince indicate that the calculations I have sent :you heretofore will be fully realized, and that the Opposition will carry 40 to 45 of the 65 seats in this Province. In the City of Montreal the result is not doubtful. The only fear was complication arising out of new nominations. This has passed away. The fight will be a square one in three divisions,— Gough vs. Darling in the West, Ryan vs. Devlin in the centre, and Coursol rs. Archambeault in the East. The first named is the Opposition, and will be all returned. In Quebee West MeGreevy, the old Conservative, has been elected by ac- clamation. In the Centre, J. G. Ress, a wealthy and influential merchant, opposes Malouin with every prospect of success ; while Mr. Laurier has to fight for his seat against Mr. Malliere, a prominent Conser- vative. Sherbrooke and Laval return their old Conservative members—Mr. Brooks and Mr. Ouimet—by acclamation. Ina number of Counties the Government can- didates are put up to make a show of fight.
Telegrams from Cardwell give assurance of the return of Mr. Thos. White, of the Montreal (razette, by a large majority.
The outlook to-day is more promising than has been known since the campaign opened, and you may count with certainty on the old Province of Canada giving the Opposition 25 to 30 of a majority. If you do half your duty in the Maritime Prov- inces, there will bea clean sweep of the incapables on the 17th.
Boston, Sept. 14.
The latest returns from Maine show that the House of Representatives will have a majority of at least one in opposition to the Republicans, and the names of Garcelon and Smith will be sent to the Senate,which being Democratic will elect the latter. The standing on the joint ballot which elects State officials has not been determined.
New York, Sept. 11.
The yellow fever interments in Memphis yesterday reache d 99, and the physicians were too busy to report the number of new cases. Eighty deaths occurred in New Or- leans, and 200 new cases are reported. The mortality at Vicksburg is increasing, 90 deaths occurring during the last two days. There have been 38 deaths at Canton and 283 cases reported since the epidemic appeared. Thirty cases exist at Senatobia, and fever is on the increase at various other points in Mississippi.
A New Orleans despatch reports that a cool N. W. wind sprung up last evening, with deadly effect upon the sick. The changing weather has given a new impetus to the fever.

Meeting at Murray Harbor South. A large and influential meeting of the electors of Murray Harbor South and vicinity was held at the Hall, Murray Harbor South, on Wednesday evening, and was addressed by Messrs. McDonald, Muttart, McIntyre and McFayden, D. Ferguson, Esq., and others.
The meeting continued until a late hour. No division was called by either party.
The Grits are certainly at a discount when the dare not face a division in their reputed strongholds. The downfall of Gritism in King’s County is now a foregone conclusion,

Kenzie purchased steel rails at 74 dollars per ton, but he was most effectively skinned for his mis-statements. It is a well-know fact that for many years past the prices of other Cape Breton coals have been regulated by the rates fixed for SYDNEY COAL; but while it is true that other coals, to get a sale at all, have been pressed on the market at various prices under the current rate of SYDNEY COAL, it is no less true that, taking into account the superior ang qualities of SYDNEY COAL when compare with other Cape Breton coals, the advantage, both as to economy and convenience, is in favor of SYDNEY COAL, even at a much higher price.
The General Mining Association (Limited) regret that they should again have to caution the Public against the attempts being made from time to time to induce them to buy in- ferior coals purporting to be ‘‘ EQUAL TO SYDNEY,” ‘“‘SUPERIOR TO SYDNEY,” etc., etc., while some yet more unscrupulous vendors have not hesitated to advertise their coalas SYDNEY COAL (from some designated locality). All these efforts te sell coal by such means are only so many admissions on the part of those who make them of the sraNDARD character of SYDNEY COAL.
lt has come to the knowledge of the Asso- ciation that in frequent instances parties giving ‘orders to truckmen and others tor SYDNEY COAL have been furnished with other and inferior coal. ‘he Public are cautioned against permitting themselves to be imposed apon in this way.
