THE DYING STORM.

'I etn feeble, wan, and weary,

And my wings are nearly furled— I bave caused a scene so dreary,

I am glad to quit the world. With bitterness I’m thinking

'On the evil Ihave done, And to my caverns sinking

From the coming ofthe sun.

The heart of man will sicken In that pure and holy light, \Vhen he feels the hopes I’ve stricken With an everlasting blight ;— For wildly, in my tnadness, Have I poured abroad in wrath ; And changingjoy to sadness, Scattered ruin on my path.

Earth shuddered at my motion, And my powerin silence owns;

But the deep and troubled ocean O'er my deeds of horror means.

I have sunk the brightest treasure ; I’ve destroyed the fairest form ;

I have sadly filled my measure, And am now a dying storm.

VARIETIES.

RECIPE FOR Lownass or SPIRITS.— Take one ouncc of the Seeds of Resolu- tion, properly mixed with the Oil of Good Conscience; infuse into it a large spoon- ful ofthe Salts of Patience; distil very carefully a composing plant called Others’ “fees, which you will find in every part of' the Garden of Life, grow- ing under the broad leaves of Disguise, add a small quantity; it will much assist the Salts of Patience in their operation. Gather a handful of the Blossoms of Hope; then sweeten them properly with a syrup made of the Balm of Provi- dence; and if you can get any of the Seed of'I‘rue Friendship, you will have the most valuable medicine that can be administered. But you ntust be careful that you get the Seed of'True Friendship, as there is a seed that very much resem- bles it, called Self-interest, which will spoil the whole composition. Make the ingredients up into pills, which may be called Pills of Comfort : take one. night and morning, and in a short time the cure will be completed.

-GENERAL W'ou-‘a’s PasanTIMEN-r. —0n the night previous to the battle of Quelle after all the orders for the assault were'given, Sir James Wolfe requested a private interview with his friend ; at which, saying that he had the strongest presentiment that he should be killed in the ﬁght ofthe morrow, but he was sure he should die on the field of glory, Sir James unbuttoned his waistcoat, and tak- ing from his bosom the miniature of a youngJady with whose heart his own ' blended,’ he delivered it to Commander Jervis entreating, that ifthe foreboding came to pass he would himself return it to her on his arrival in England. {Wolfe’s presnges were too completely fulfilled, and Commander Jervis had the most pain- ful duty of delivering the pledge to Miss Lowther.
