From the armory of his reason he took the weapons with which he fought the writers of the Revolution in their attempt '0 over- throw the doctrines of the Founder of Christianity. Tbis work, from an argu~ mentative and a theological poiat of view, contributed much to the revival of religioa | in France after the excesses of the revoiu~ tion. Had the wasting influences and the blight- ing effects of the writings of his adversaries continued to do their work of destruction the great French nation would soon have been extinguished, and their pluce as a distinct nationality would no longer be found on the wap of Europe.
