Three days, April 29 to May 1, inclusive. will be given up to the festivities. the cadets of the military and naval acadunies with the troops and militia of the state will march in line, an army 50,000 strong, which will take seven or eight hours to pass a given point. An imposing naval display is promised, and trade processions galore. A. Z. Hatch, of Ba:tle Lake, who took an active part last year in fighting the pests, has been making investigations, and says that, while many fields are free from the eggs, others contain enough to destroy everything. Governor Merriam has requested Capt..Chase, Chair- man of the County Commissioners, to come to St. Paul and see what can be done to prevent grasshoppers from spreading.

At ENTERPRISING GIRL.—Says the: Bangor Commercial: ‘‘1t is reported on good author- ity that a young province girl in male attire came to the States early last fall and hired to cook for a crew of 26 men, inacamp on the head waters of the Machias river. Her sex was not suspected until the first of March, ‘and, although she had performed her task satisfactorily and conducted herself correctly, she was then discharged. That girl should receive considerable credit for her enterprise anyway.”

| Recetvep nto tux Cuurcu.—Rev. C. W. Hamilton, of Margate, received 33 persons into the full membership of the church there on the 7th. He says in the Wesleyan :—The scene was an impressive one. Perhaps never before in the history of Methodism here did so many persons, at one time, receive the right hand of fellow- ship into the church. Among them were shildren of tender years and parents ad- vanced in life.

Suddenly, at Long Creek, on the 12th inst. Catherine McLeod, relict of the late Duncan McKinnon, formerly of Uigg, aged 71 years, She was a woman of amiable and stirling qualities. In her early youth she became a ‘ollower of Christ, under the teachings of the late Rev. Donald McDonald, and with firm faith in her Redeemer she passed peacefully
