E Fed-up foolishness

Sean MacQuaid [SIC], This letter is in reference to the November 18 edition of the X-Press.

As one of the authors of the Kennedy article, I would like you to note that my last name is ‘*Grasse’’ and not ‘‘Greene’’. It was spelled correctly the second time in the article. I would like to compliment your staff on the presenta- tion of the article. Very professional.

The second item I would like to express a small concern about was the ‘‘ fed up withmen”’ article. Quite frankly, it wasn’t written well enough to be published in most high school papers, not to mention university or college. What was the rationale in publishing such an article? It stereotyped men into one category of. pathetic degenerates. Let it be clearly stated that they have the same freedom of thought, word and deed as the rest of us do. I really think the point of their article could have been presented in a much more journalistic fashion.

The X-Press has to recognize that quality of articles published in their paper reflects upon quality of the job they are performing. Surely you weren’t that desperate or short of decently written articles? Maybe you were just trying to spark a debate?

I can only imagine the response if such an article had been written about females or a minority group.

Dear Editor: This is yet another letter in response to the “‘fed up’’ women.

In regards to your advice to women, you treat men like they have absolutely no redeem- ing points.

In your Point to Ponder #10, you say a man will pick the more aggressive woman because she is more likely to “‘put out’’. I have talked about this with my male and female friends, and we all agreed we would pick the aggressor, not because they would put out: personally, I would chose the aggressor because a person who is more aggressive in asking me out (etc) seems to be the person who wants to go out with me more.

Also, in point #4, you talk about a man not sticking around after you chose to ignore his affections. What do you expect? Do you want men to sit and wait when we turn them down, just in case we change our minds? If someone asks me out, and I say no, I expect them to

accept that asa ‘“‘no’’, and not a ‘‘maybe later’’.

Yes, men can be jerks sometimes, but women can act just as badly, as you two have aptly shown. Why do you seem to think it is OK to bash men? Ifyou are doing it in the spirit of Feminism, and the idea of trying to get justice for women, then please remember that the idea is equality with men, not superiority over them. Bashing men achieves nothing but resentment from both sexes.

Also, I have a point to make with Ms. Robinson’s letter to the editor the other week. Why on earth did you make such a big fuss over leaving your name, and then leave a pen-name? If you don’t want your name known, that is fine, just say so. Trying to give the impression that your pen-nameis your real name is lying to your readers, and takes away any validity you had in the first place.

Dear Fed Up Women,

Well, well, well. Don’t you just sound like you are the goddesses of all women? I do not understand why you think your ‘points to pon- der’ are so worthwhile to the female race. | am embarrassed to say I share the same gender with you!

I do not think that every guy is out to get one thing. As a matter-of-fact, I know many guys who don’t constantly think of sex, and they are not out to get it all the time. Why do you say ~ these things? Do younot have any male friends? Did a guy piss you off one time so now you are just mad at men in general? With your negative attitudes towards men, it is hard for me to. imagine that you have ever been in a relation- ship with a man!

I think you should really sit back and ‘ponder’ over the fact that maybe you are just wasting good newspaper space. Really, you might be nice girls, whomever you are, but I think you should reconsider what you say. To me, it seem so narrow-minded, and it really does not have a lot of bearing on the real world. Besides, if you are so adamant about your views, why are you so afraid to write your names on your articles? I agree with Shannon Younker when she says you should use your real names. Why bother saying you are not afraid to say what you think when you sign your letters with a pen name?
