Manitoba Wheat.
Wissipec, Man., August 25.—Wheat harverting is now becoming general throughout the country. Twenty per cent of the crop has been eut on the Mennonite reserve in Southern Manitoba, and if the weather continues favoratle for a fortnignt the bulk of the croo will be saved. Cartwright Apologetic.
Toronto, Aug. 25.—The Cartwright meeting in Toronto last night was fairly well attended, but the crowd at Massey hall did not -nearly correspond with the attendance at Tupper’s last meeting. Mr. Bertram, who was the only other speaker announced, failed to putin an appearance. These who expected a rousing speech were sadly disappointed, Cartwright being main~ ly apologetic throughout. He was frequent- ly interrupted with cries of “What about free trade ?” and how about the sixty- million expenditure? His reply war: “Better a large population and a large ex- penditure than a small population and staal] expenditure.” The meeting was over at ten o'clock.
