Doefaulters names are, if we mistake not, pudlished in Moncton, St. Jelin, Fred- yrickton, and other towns. earriage by rail of lumber in car loads. The reduction, we are informed, took effect on the 23ra inst. A carload of ten tons of lumber, is now taken ten miles for $4 imstead of $5; twenty miles for $5, instead of $6; forty miles, for 53, instead of $10 ; aixty miles for $10 instead of $13, as here- tofore, and so on. ‘This modification, will, we fee! sure, be appreciated ; and, as in the case of all previous ones, the railway will obtain more revenue from the carriage of lumber, and the public greater satisfaction. The good effect of the recent reduction in the railway tariti, for the carriage of pota toes ia already seen ; for potatoes are for the first time brought all the way from Tignish for shipmeut at Charlottetown. Special rates have now beeuw made for mussel mud, limestone, potatoes, lumber, and if we mistake not for some other ar- ticles; and if the railway authorities and our representatives go on in this way the tariff will soon be a reasonable and satisfactory one. The notable suc- evss attending upon past modifications should encourage the Government to make others. In this connection we may quote
