Minister of Marine and Fisheries has awarded a binocular glass to Captain Erickson, master of the Norwegian ship ‘“*Wawaland,” in acknowledgment ot his kind ness to a portion of the shipwrecked crew of the barque ‘St. Lawrence” belorging to Prince Edward Island, who were picked up at sea and maintained on board of his vessel free of charge from Septeraber to the 3rd of October, 1831, when they were landed at New York.

Kenstxcton Sapsatu Scuoor Picxic.—A Sabbath School Picnic was heid at Kensington on Wednesday, 23rd ult., by the scholara, teachers, and friends of the Sabbath School | of that place. The day was everything that eou'd be desired for the oceasion, and all pres- | ent seemed toenjoy themselves well. the good things provided by the parents avd friends were partaken of, the Rev. Mr. Maggs, who was present, delivered a very pleasing address to the children, which was listened to attentively. A few appropriate pieces were then sung by the Sunday School scholars. After the singing a few games were eagerly contested by the children, which seemed to give much amusement and enjoyment to all present. The party dispersed at about six o'clock apparently well pleased with the after- noon’s enjoyment.

Tae huge Sutro tunnel which has been run under the mountains to form an escape chan- nel for the hot water of the Comstock Miues, of Virginia City, Nevada, is now completed. The tunnel is four miles long and the water is conveyed through it into a pine flume, made close to prevent the of vapor. The température of the water 196°, and three million gallons are discharged every twenty- four hours.
