Dear Editor:

I have just come from the library, where I have been trying to write aterm paper. Unfortunately, I can’t concentrate because of all the people around me who are laughing and talking!

The library has been put in place for studying--not for socializing. At university, students are treated as adults. Professors do not check for homework or hand out punishments. If people expect to be treated as adults, they should start acting like adults! Being a mature person means having respect for others. That includes being quiet in a place where other people are trying to study.

Yes, it’s true that I could probably search around the library for a quieter place to sit, But I want to sit near the books that I need to use, and it should be my right to so that!

There are lots of places to talk besides the library. There are benches in the hall, the Pit , cafeterias, or even empty classrooms. There are also group sturdy rooms available in the library (which are almost all empty as I write this letter). PLEASE start giving some respect to others. This isn’t kindergarten!

Professor Wolf grew up in Calgary, Alberta the son : of a lower working class family. His first degree is an BA hounors degree from the University of Calgary. ”

He recieved one of the highest grade point averages a the University of Calgary earning him scholarships ta get him to graduate school. While he was studying, he was also drivingamotorcycletoshowhisanger towards society. Professor Wolf decided to do his doctoral dissertation onthe outlaw bikergangThe ~ Rebels. He spent three years riding with the Rebels ~ doing the things any normal biker would have to do, a recieving no special treatment. ‘‘ ...In my work with © the Rebels I was never afforded the luxury ofnot © having to perform or nto being able to understand the, rules of the outlaw game. Riding with the Rebels meant that I either learned, understood, and performé as well as any other biker who wanted to bea friend 7 of the club, or I left the scene.’ The end result of hig} three year study is his PhD. and the book The Rebels . A Brotherhood of Outlaw Bikers. His book has : recieved national exposure. Being the ONLY book © written in P.E.I to make the NY Times bookreview. 7 Professor Wolf’s book has also been nominated for 7 the John Porter Book Award this is the highest award? given in the Social Sciences and well deserved in my® opinion, Professor Wolf is an adjunct Professor in th Sociology and Anthropology department here atthe 7 University. He started teaching here in 1988 while he | was finishing writing his book. He still rides a moto® cycle anda Trans Am buthe hopes to buy a new Harley at the begining of the summer. I asked Profes® sor Wolf what was next? He is looking at a number | of ideas that of intrest to him like, looking at Outlay Clubs ona international level and concepts of Territorality as a means of Social control, also he is® taking a look at Street gangs. Whatever he does next wish him goodluck on his nomination forthe John ©
