THE annual report of the secretary of the American Iron and Steel Association says the past year has been one of only moderate pros- perity. The indications are that the produc- tion of iron and steel in 1884 will be less than in 1883.

Dr. Whitely, however was committed for trial.

A cURIOUS case is being tried in one of the Brooklyn ccurts just now. A customer hav- ing imbibed rather freely in the saloon of a fun-loving German named Holme, fell asleep in achair. He hada magnificent beard reach- ing nearly to his waist. Holme suggested to some of his cronies that the best joke of the season wonld be to cut the beard off. This was accordingly done; but the practical joke did not end as pleasantly as vas expected, as the shorn victim instituted a suit for $1,000.

W. Dariey Benrty has succeeded in organ- izipg anew company to be known as the Montreal, Halifax and Boston Steamship Company. It is the intention of the promoters to maintain a line of steamships between Montreal and Boston, calling at Quebec, Gaspe Charlottetown, ports on the Gut of Canso and Halifax. The tirst steamship for the line, the Titian, has already left Glasgow for Montreai, with a full cargo. I~mediatelly after dis- charging she will open the line, and will be followed by other vessels shortly afterwards,— Halifex Herald.

MARRIED.

On the morning of the 15th of April last, at St. Mark’s Church, Hammonton, New Jersey, Mr. William M. Stewart, eldest son of the late Rev. Wm. Stewart, formerly of Cherry Valley, Prince Edward Island, to Miss Lila Millar. ‘The bride, attired in a rich brown ottoman silk, with large boquet of white roses, leoked very handsome and distinguished. There were no bridesmaids, only the invalu- able ushers supported the happy pair. The bride was given away by her father, Mr. Wm. A. Millar. The Rev. Louis K. Lewis officiat- ing in a most impressive and solemn manner. The Church ard Altar were beautifully decor- ated with growing flowers. After the cere- mony a large party of near relatious and friends partook of breakfast at the residence of the brides parents, on Third Street. Later in the day Mr. and Mrs. Stewart left for an extended wedding tour. The presents were numerous and costly.
