Imay add, too, thas it is easier to sit upon a ticycle while a dog is drawing it than it is when one is proceeding alone. In long races, more- over, trainers do not hesitate to draw their racers, who then no longer have to occupy themselves with either the pedals or equili- brium.
Dogs have a considerable force of resist- ance. Oueday I made twenty miles of ascent on a gallop with a few minutes’ rest at every three or four miles and in scarce ly pedaling. Those who make use of dogs easily yet from thirty five to sixty miles out of them witha very poor vehicle. I know one who makes ninety miles with four dogs. It is true that iu descent three dogs staud in the vehicle, that en level surfaces two only are harnessed, and that in steep acclivities the entire pack pushes or draws the wagon.
I know an amateur who has trained a dog to push along his bicycle at the side, and who, in retarn, oe offers him a seat on level surfaces and during de- scents.
If, as Thope, thanks to the aid of all those who are going to utilize my process, au arrangement be found that shall permit of ascending rapidly and of easily carry- ing the dog during a descent, distances of sixty miles will be made very quickly and especially without fatigue.—wvr. The lady knew that she must sit quite still, and after the first shock she tucked her feet away and remained in quiet bewilderment unlil they reached the bot- tom.
There they stood aghast. Each bowed to the other. Each apologized, the one for being in the way, the other for bearing off a lady so unceremonivusly. Allreserve soon wore off, and by the time the lady's brother arrived he found them chatting and laughiug. the best of friends.

Kefoiming a Tramp. The experiment of reforming a tramp was lately tried at Indianapolis. One of the species applied at a doctor's house for The woman of the house refused him aid unless he worked. He consented to do anything, and she took him to the kitchen, where he was set to work doing the week's washing. He staggered a bit at first, but manfuily overcame his natural aversion .o water and work. Thia so im- pressed the doctor that a situation at nine dollars per week was secured for him. The first week's wages was lost from a hole in his pocket, bat out of the second week's pay he returned money loaned to tide him over. The experiment promises so much success that itis doubted if the good peo- ple have secured a genuine specimen.

The attention of Commercial Travellers is ¢alied to the following sections of an Act — by the Legislative Assembly of Prince ward Isiand, Session 1894, intituled “An Act to Impose a Direct ‘fax on Certain Classes of Traders ” :— 1. “From and after the passing of this Act every casual trader not permanen‘ly residing tn this Province doing business within this Province, commonly known as “Commercial Travellers,’ and every person not permanent- ly residing in this Province, and who sells either for himself or any other person any goods, wares or merchandize in this Province, or solicits or canvasses for orders either for hirfseifor any other person for the sale, ex- oo or purchase of any goods, wares or merchandize within this Province, either by the production of samples, photographs, cata- logues, printed or written matter, or simply by word of mouth without the production of samples, photographs, catalogues, printed or written matter, shall, before he or she enters upon the business of so selling any goods, wares or merchandize, or soliciting or can- vassing for such orders, pay to the Provincial Treasurer of this Proyince an annual licen e fee or direct tax of fifteen dollars.” 2. “Upon payment of the said license fee or direct tax, the said Provincial Treasurer shall grant a license authorizing the person therein named to se}l goods, wares and mer- chandize in this Province, and to solicit and eanvass for orders for the sale, exchange or purchase of goods, wares and merebandize within this Provinee. Such license shall be granted and remain in force for the space of one year following the date upon which the said license shall be granted and no longer,”
