Gallant - Barrett Marriage

The Sacred Heart Church, Al- berton, was the scene of a pretty wedding on Wednesday, June 18, 1958, when Theresa, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles F. Barrett, Alberton. was united in marriage to Clifford, son of Mr. Joseph Gallant and the late Mrs. Gal- lant. O’Leary.

The Nuptial Mass was celebra- ted by Rev. Phelan McKenna and the wedding music was played by Mrs. E.E. Larter, Mr. J. H. Barrett sang “0 Lord I Am Not Worthy,” and “Mother at Thy Feet 15 Kneeling,” and a girls’ quartette, Misses Alice Faye Bar- rett, Bonita Barrett, Ronnie Rose MacKinnon and Diane Ahearn, sang “O Sacrament, We Thee Adore” and “On This Day, 0 Beautiful Mother.”

The bride, given in marriage by her brother-in—law, Mr. R.D. MacKinnon, wa s attnactively gowned in a cocktail length dress of pastel blue net over taffeta. She wore a white hat with’blue veil and matching blue mitts. Her cor-sage was pink roses and she carried a white missal with pink streamers. , .

Miss Helen Barrett. as her sis- ter’s bridesmaid, wore pink ny- lon in cocktail length, with pink hat and white accessories. Her Corsage was pink roses and she carried a white missal with blue streamers.

Little Miss Yvonne Barrett, niece of the bride, was flower girl. She was dressed in white with pink accessores.

The groom was attended by his brother; Mr. Wesley Gallant.

Following the marriage cere- mony a reception was held at the home of the bride’s parents, ‘where a wedding breakfast was served to forty-five guests.

The bride’s mother wore a beige street length dress with cor- sage of white carnation/s.

Following a honeymoon trip in the Maritimes. Mr. and Mrs. Gal- lant will reside in O'Leary.

“What is the difference in the method of cooking meat on bro— chettes or skewers or shish ka- bab style?”

The Chef and I have encoun- tered this question in various forms in audience discussions fol- lowing personal appearances. SAME METHOD

“There is no difference in the method of cooking," the Chef al- ways answers.

“In each case, the meat or fish is impaled on a pointed gadget. Originally, .it was a sword for shish ‘kababs ——- shish means sword, kababs means meat. A handled rod, 'called .a brochette, or metal skewers are currently used. These gadgets are twelve inches in length, the right size to hold enough impaled meat or fish and vegetables to broil or grill for each person. .

“The meat must be well-sea- soned, with plenty of fat used, or it will be dry, tough and taste- less.”

CASUAL MEAL

Of course, whether the food is cooked on a sword or a brochette, on elegant stainless steel skew- ers over an indoor or terrace bar- becue grill, or on a pointed green stick over a. camp fire, the meal is a casual one.

Tomorrow’s dinner: Chilled pineapple juice, lamb kababs on Persian rice, tossed green salad bowl, lime sherbet with strawber- ries, hot or iced coffee, tea or milk.

Add lamb to lemon marinade, made 'by combining and mixing 1 c. lemon juice, 3/4 c. corn oil, 1 chopped medium onion or 1/2 tsp. liquid onion, 3 drops liquid garlic, 1/4 tsp. each powdered thyme and bay leaf and 1-8 tsp. ground clove.

Let lamb stand in marinade and refrigerate a few hours or, if possible, overnight.

Impale lamb on brochettes or skewers, preferably 12 - in. in length, alternating with V4 - in. slices of onion, squares of green pepper and wedges of not-too- soft fresh tomato, if desireanust with salt and pepper.

For indoor broiling, place the shish kalbabs over the edge of a ‘low pan so they are suspended. Broil under a medium heat 20—25 min. Turn twice; baste gener- ously with the marinade. Last, brush with melted butter for shining effect.

Serve sizzling. When eating, re- move from skewer with a fork to enjoy the savory morsels.

Persian Rice: Cook 2 c. plain white rice as usual.

Stir in 13 c. raisins‘and 1-3 c. coarse - chopped, walnut meats. slightly sauteed in 3 tbsp. butter. Add 1-3 c. well-drained chopped preserved ginger (optional). Heat thoroughly. ,

The Orwell Head W.M.S. met at the home of Mrs. Alex Mac‘ Kinnon on Tuesday July 1, with an attendance of ten members and two visitors.

The program outlined in the Missionary Monthly was follow- ed. “The Bible and Prayer‘VW-as the theme for the evening. Read- ings on the topic were given by Mrs. Lloyd Robbins, Mrs. D. J. Gillis, and Mrs. M.F. MacLeod. The hymns were “0 For a Thous- sand Tongues to Sing” a n (1 “Break Thou the Bread of Life.” The scripture reading taken from John’s Gospel, Chapter 10: 1-15, was read responsively.
