The Junior B Y. C. kept their playoff hopes alive by thumping the llumplng Senior 8. Y. C. 6-1 in a City Softball League title at Victoria Park last evening.

The win put the juniors into n tie with the B. I. S. Shamrocks for the fourth and last playoff spot. The defeat was the fourth straight for the Seniors who once held an impressive 9-1 record. Young Sonny Mahar set down the seniors on 5 hits and the junior aoiilthpaw whiffed four in the bar- an.

OTTAWA (CP) -- There will ha "positively" no CBC television coverage of the Moore - Parker fight in Toronto Wednesday night.

Revenue Minister McCann, who reports to the Commons for the CBC, informed Clarla Gillis (CCF Cape Breton South) that it was impossible to make arrangements to telecast the heavyweight fight between James .1. Parker and Archie Moore.

Mr. Gillis had asked Dr. Mc- Cann to satisfy the curiosity of boxing fans about CBC coverage of the fight.

Dr. McCann did not mention radio coverage.

Jaremey First Man Ever To Swim 32-Mile Lake Ontario

TOROT0 (CP) Steamfliter Johnny Jaremey became the first man ever to swim the 32 miles across w estern -Lake Ontario Monday and went home to sleep before collecting prizes that in- clude coupons for 100 free milk- shakes.

While the city cheered the I95-' pound. 86-year-old native of Port Arthur. 0nt.. a fatigue licked three other marathoners who had fol- lowed him into the lake from the mouth of the Niagar River.

They were veteran distance- swimmer Winnie Roach Leuszler. ll. of Calgary and Toronto, the first Canadian to swim the Eng- lish Channel; Jim Woods. 40. of Ashville. N.C..

Jaremey. oddly enough. was the only unknown of the four. Mary Leuszler. mother of three. was m " her second try-she failed in 1954-and had covered 10 miles when. six-foot waves drained her strength. Woods was on his sec- ond bid in two weeks and Wheat- croft devoted 28 hours last year to trying to beat the lake. Woods covered is miles Monday.
