Wasuinctoy,August 21.—The Japanese legation has received several important despatches, giving the latest information in regard toevents in Pekin. A telegram dated the 19th of August at Tokio says: “After the entry was effected into Pekin by the allied troops, the Chinese troops, on August 15th, betook themselves to and remained in the Imperial Palace. “A body of the Japanese troops was called off to guard the Palace, and there they met with an obstinate resistance by the Chinese troops, Fighting is still going on. The headquarters of the [Japanese army is in the legation, and the division is mainly quartered in the villages outside of Antingme,”

He had to be watched all the time, and there was vo telling what time he wouldelade his watchers, get on deck and secure ahatchet or some other instrument and brain us all. “Allof this time we were making an extremely slow trip. It seemed that we would never reach port. A month pase~ ed and wewere still many hundred miles from San Francisco, and every minute of the weary days the maniac in the hold kept up his singing and howling. It was terrible.
