This short course is designed for University of P.E.l. students who wish to achieve more effective expression in various forms of speaking such as discussion, seminar partici- pation and social interaction. The Gem has been‘told that the placement of the mural in the Vet College Lounge is not yet confirmed. That will depend on the Lounge’s final decor.
Christmas cards.
“It was a pleasant surprise to see the Christmas card from President Meincke,” says Patty. “I didn’t expect it.”
Apparently the President ordered a thousand copies at first, but found demand to be so great that five hundred more had to be ordered.
Patty commented on the painting: “I was trying to find something that would be associated with the college and when you think of the Vet College 'you think of animals. I did it for fun.”
The story of the painting goes something like this. The horse is reaching down to eat the apple because he knows that an apple a day keeps the vet away. Very health con— scious.
Squiggy the worm is rush- ing back to his home to try and save it from the clutching teeth of this monster. Squiggy’s best defense is leaving a bad taste in the horse’s mouth.
The giraffes are just back from Hawaii, sporting new tropical shirts. They aren’t smiling because they don’t like having their portrait painted.
Rover the dog welcomes back the giraffes with open arms, while Hermione the
ONE am? REASON to; HECK us our.
frog sits pretty for the por- trait.
Sam the pelican drops by to share some of his catch with his giraffe buddies, but the giraffes look even more perturbed because they don’t like fish. It’s the thought that counts, guys.
Bashful Barry Bear hides in the bushes he’s very sensi— tive about his height when he’s around the giraffes. Barry doesn’t like being so short, plump and furry. Well. Barry, good things come in small packages.
Chipper, the Mouse, is so excited when his tall friends return from their long vaca~ tion that he scales one of the giraffes’ necks to smile for the portrait. The giraffes don’t like this, but what can they do when they have so many friends?
Snuff the elephant isn't paying too much attention to the giraffes. She can’t see what the fuss is aborit (neither can the giraffes), be- cause she is in her own little world taking in the sights and sounds of nature around her. Day-dreaming is her pastime.
“If I had to the portrait over again, says Patty, “i would only change “UPEI” to read the “Atlantic Vet College”.
