The Princess Louise's Dragoon Guards, of Ottawa, have received an invitation from the 13th Regiment, Brooklyn, to participate in the Fourth of July celebration in that city. They offer to furnish the troops with horses, etc. ‘They have also received a similar invi- tation from the Citizens’ Corps of Utica.
Tue trial of Joseph Hortell, for murder, was commenced at Lunenburg, N. S., on Monday. ‘The prisoner, in January, assaulted Simon O’Farrell, a constable, for coming on the prisoner’s premises to deliver hay sold under execution, striking him on the head with a formidable club, which. was produced in court. Fracture of the base of the skull, causing death some eight week afterwards.
A member of the Moncton Police Force named Kearns, contemplates attempting the feat of walking 100 miles in 24 consecutive hourr, on a tanbark track. Mr, Kearns is a large man and strong, and apparently full of power and endurance. In August, 1876, he rowed 10 consecutive hours in Worcester, Mass., on a wager.
