In Charlottetown, Lindsay's Bottle Exchange is now operating at the foot of Prince St., and NHS members reported that that were recycling bottles. The Environmental Coalition of Prince Edward Island is also forming a Recycling Committee to look at ways of encouraging such action. Natural History news

The Feb. 7 meeting of the Natural History Society was well-attended and featured a talk and slide show by Professor Earl Wonnacott of UPEI on

the winter night sky. Dan McAskill announced that the Piping Plover videotape is now completed and available for use. The Society donated

$25 to the Maritimes Breeding Bird Atlas, and heard about the two Environment Week projects that have now been accepted. One is a continua- tion of last year's project, hiring someone to go to schools and help

get teachers used to using the Operation Lifeline kits. The second is

to develop a slide collection of about 200 birds, mammals, insects, amphibians, etc. for use by teachers, speakers at meetings, community schools, etc. It fits in nicely with the Operation Lifeline project too. The March 7 meeting was unfortunately poorly attended (myself included) due to bad weather and Dr. Noam Chomsky speaking the same evening at UPEI. Debbie Hearn of the Department of forestry showed slides and talked about the various demonstration woodlots on PEI.

COMING EVENTS

Field trips - Jean Ouellette has agreed to lead the Owl Prowl this year, tentatively in the National Park area. Date has not been set, but call Jean for more details, 892-5276. Dan McAskill will lead an Amphibian Night, if and when the weather and schedule is suitable. Call Dan at 569-4351 for more on that one.

April 4: David Cairns will speak on the Pribilof Islands in the Bering

Sea at the April meeting of the NHS. The meeting will be held at the Farm Centre, University Ave., Ch'town, av~7:30 p.m. early April — The Environmental Coalition of Prince Edward Island will continue it's monthly meetings. This is where members get to show off there talents in the annual slide competition, and if previous years are any indication, it will prove to be a most entertaining evening.
