She is tamous| as a horsewoman, as a sailor, as a tra- veller, and as an impetuous writer, and Ww special correspondent in Zululand | for the Morning Post. She got into con-| troversy with the ka and League by pub- lishing a pamphle ed ‘“ An Ad-| dress to the T enant 8 mers and People of Ireland, with Advice and Warning,” in which urged them to demand | irom the trustees a statement of the re- | ceipts and expenditures of the Leagues funds The League leader : torted by asking her through the /r/s a7 in if she had not been expelled from | the court of the Queen, and, if so, why. She wrote a letter of explanation, which | said that she had merely been repri. | manded by the Lord Chamberlain be-| cause she went to court with no feathers | in her hair. To her recent charge that £152,000 = of the Land League fuads were not accounted for, and that} £93,000 had been used to promote the the commission of outrages in Ireland, | Treasurer Egan of the Land League replied that she was crazy after noter- iety, and thut she had become the! mouthpiece of Richard Pigott,formerly | editor of the Jrishman. This man, Mr. Egan said, had failed in an attempt to} blackmail ‘the League, and then, in re- venge, wrote a pamphlet, in which he claimed to give transcripts of the League accounts. Lady Florence Dixie had this pamphlet printed, but became trightened aftera dozen copies had been bound, and had about all of them | destroyed. Mr. Egan says he has one| of these pamphlets, and that her recent | charges are based on the figuresin that | She had been liberal in gifts of money and laber for the relief of starv- ing Irish peasants.
