Je la revois encore au fond de ma chambre, aimable, souri aute et belle sous son diadème, de cheveux blancs, me regar- der de son œil gris et serein ; et, s'appuyant sur sa petile canne de frêne, gagner tout doucement, clapinclopant, le grand fauteutl en cuir de Rus- sie d'où elle savait causer avee tant d'est et d'indulgence sur les douces choses d'autrefois et sur les curieuses absurdités du temps présent,

Pauvre grand'mère ! dire que vous nous avez quittés depuis huit longs moi, et cela, malgrè toute notre tendresse et tous nos petits soins ! Le canapé ou vous êtes morte est encore là, triste et solitaire, en face de vo tre causeuse à peine refroidie, et pourtant, rien qu'à regarder ces objets que vous aimiez tant et qui respirent encore votre vie, il me semble entendre vo. ire voix claire et sympathique me raconter les légendes et les histoires de jadis.
