ANNOUNCEMENTS

A NOMINATING COMMITTEE of three members, and an auditing committee of two members will be appointed at the December meeting.

NHS CRESTS are available at $3.50; and "Winds of Sea and Wood" at $1.35. They would make excellent Christmas gifts.

WE ACKNOWLEDGE with thanks donations from: M.J.A. Butler, Dr. Ed Johnston, Simon Lunn, Kathy Martin and John McClellan. They generously donated the mileage cheques they received from the Crapaud Community School to the Natural History Society.

THANKS also to Simon Lunn of P.E.I. National Park for digging out the maps, etc. our society needed for organizing the 1976 Christmas Bird

Count scheduled on December 18th. John Wright is responsible for organ- izing the 1976 Bird Count. For further information, see article on page 5 of this issue.

SCARLET TANAGER observed at Southport, P.E.I. Mrs. Ruth Osborne reported seeing one in her backyard last spring. Other neighbors saw it also.

THE PLANETS. Two brilliant jewels adorn the spacious firmament on high this month. Venus appears in the south-western sky in the early evening and sets soon after 7:00 P.M. More brilliant still is Jupiter, in the east. By 10:30 P.M. it is south and almost overhead. Look for Jupiter to be close to the moon on December 4th. On December 11th Saturn rises near the moon---five days after the full moon.

CHANGES TO CONSTITUTION. The Constitution can be amended only at annual meetings of the society and suggested changes must be submitted in writing to the membership at least 21 days before that meeting. The final date

for submission of proposed changes for 1977 annual meeting is December 14, 1976.

1976 PHOTOGRAPHY CONTEST. There will be a competition for adult members

in the following categories: Plant slide, Animal slide, and a slide series (three to five slides which tell a nature story). The Junior Naturalists will have a competition for the best nature Slide or print. All members will be eligible for the new "Best-in-Show" trophy. Dates for submission of entries will be given in the January newsletter.

"THE DISAPPEARING ISLAND LANDSCAPE" will be on exhibit at the Confeder— ation Centre Art Gallery from November 25 — December 12, 1976. This collection of old and recent photographs and paintings depicting the

environmental changes that have taken place on our Island is well worth .viewing.
