SouRIs, Sept. 20. The storm of last night and this morn'ng was very severe here. The sea ran exceed- ingly high, and the strength ef the break- water was tested to its utmost. In the height of the sterm two schooners went ashore. Their names are the Mary Joseph, owned by — McCarthy, of this place, and the Col. J. H. French, Captain Harris. The Col. a H. French is a large two- topmaster, and is lixely to be a total wreck. Her crew were saved with great difficulty, and the captain was the last man to leave the wreck. The schooner Alice, of Wellfleet, lost her seine boat and seine. The schooner C. M. Adams had her sails badly tattered. The schooner Fanny Young lost her fly- ing jibboom and her seine boat. Four other schooners are said to be ashore between this place and East Point. About fifty sail are safely anchored here.

KENSINGTON, Sept. 20. The schooners Ellen 7. Eliza A. Thomas, both of Portland, Me., while attempting to beat into Malpeque Harbor on Saturday night, the 18th inst., about nine o'clock, collded off C Jape Ayles- bury, Darnley Point. The damage sus- tained by each was so great that in order t save themselves from sinking where the collision took place they were obliged to run for the shore. Both are now lying east of Darnley Point full of water. They had between them about four hundred barrels of mackerel. Efforts are being made to save the riggings and cargoes, but it is thought that both vessels will be total wrecks. They are bot) splendid schooners—-over one hundred tons each—and one isalmost new. The crews of both were saved. The schooner Neskletia, of Lock port, N. S., while endeavoring to make Malpeque on Sunday night, went on the bar and _ will likely be a total wreck. There is a heavy gale blowing and it is almost impossible to board the schooners.

A Rough and Tumble Fight,

ALLEGHANNY City, Sept. 29 The Sullivan-Hearld fight last night drew an immense crowd. In the first round Sullivan made one of his famous rushes. After a minute’s fighting the men clinched and fought desperately, being finally separated by the attendants. Hearld did not look much worse for the rough treat-

ment. In the second round Hearld was the attacking party. He tried to get at

Sullivan’s face, but fell short. In an instant he was in the embrace of his antagonist, who pounded him with all his force until Hearld slipped away and gave Sullivan a drive under the eye, that

; the only clear blew he got in on the champion. Then he gathered himself and with an upper cut sent Hearld flat on hig back. The fight had now become mere rough and tumble. Hearld slipped and fell when the police separated the men. Referee Newellannounced that Sullivan was winner; and though entreated to revoke his decision, Newell insisted on giving the fight to the champion,

ship: Galatea, 10.52.30, Mayflower, 10.52.40. It would seem from this that the Galatea finished before the Mayflower but such was

not the case.-- The Mayflower passed the lightship one length ahead of the Galatea, and the discrepancy was in the time of the watches used on the different yachts. — It.is impossible to state whether the race will be given to the Mayflower or the Galatea, though the fact that the Mayflower finished a length ahead and was handicapped beside would seem to lexve 110 question.
