King Lion Russ Kelly reported on a Canadian National Institute for the Blind executive meeting which he attended in Charlotte- town He brought back to the club the congratulations of the instit- utes exocutive on the work of the Summerside Lions last years ii" I for ihe blind. The work of the Lions Club and the response of the peo- ple of Summerside was described as"trernendous”. As the club has taken on this work as an annual project, it will soon be time for the menbers of the club to go to work on this year's appeal.

On a lighter note, a social even -ing for the Lions and their wives was planned for the near future. This will probably take the form of a corn boil. Lion Thane Bagole who will probably eat the most com, was named to organize the party.

Lion Boss LeFurgey. president of the stark club. presented Lions Jack Harper and Thane Bagole with gifts from the club to mark the occasions of their elevation to fatherhood.

Mr. Ralph Boatea. Mr. Stanley Godfrey. and Mr. Francis (Ging- er) MacQuarrie were present as guests.

S'sida Legion Branch Holds Monthly Meeting

President 6. Lame Monlilye pre- sided at the regular monthly meet- ing of the Summersida Branch of the Canadian Legion held in the Home last evening with approxim- ately 100 members present.

It was revealed by secretary - manager, Comrade James Hogan. that a drive to duplicate the pres- ent membership of the Canadian Legion In Canada is to be held during the next two years, with the objective being 500,000 mem- bers. The present local campaign. from September 1st to October 15th has as its moto "Every Member- A New Member." and Comrade Hagan asked each member to make certain he brings in s new mem- ber during that period. The object.- ive of the Summerside Branch is 500. but this mark is expected to be reached easily as there are now 474 paid up members. which in- cludes so new applications which were approved by the meeting. This is the largest number of ap- plications ever brought in at a meeting of the Summer-side Branch and Comrades Frank Savidant and Vince Savidant were instrumental in getting a large yu entago of these.

Comrade Hogan pointed out the objects and alnis of the Canadian Legion and related many of the services provided by this large or- ganization.
