Deny Russian Activity ls Stepped Up "

OTTAWA (CP) —- German re- ports th-at Russian naval activity was stepped up off Newfoundland during the recent Middle East crisis were denied Wednesday by Canadian navy headquarters. The reports, not carried by The Canadian Press, attributed to West German authorities at Ham- burg statements that Russian sur— face and under-water naval ele- ments were seen off Newfound- land during that period. The con- struction placed upon the alleged appearances was that they were intended as a “show of strength.” A spokesman at RCN head- quarters said there have been no reports of unusual Russian naval activity in the Newfoundland area in recent weeks.

President of the firm. ,H. E. MacDonald said yesterday there are still no Federal Gavernment contracts in sight but he .was pleased to note that busmess from a local source has shown considerable pickup. '
