During the evening plans were finalized for this year's Guild onirics in the Sub Regional Drama Festival which will be held at the Empire Theatre on January 36. Reports were given on the progress being made on the three plays. "An Old Lady Shows Her Medals," "Shanghai" and "Heritage nf Wimpolc Street" which will be entered m the Drama Festival cumpclition.

Plans were also discussed eon- ccrziing the three-act play en- titled "John Loves Mary" which the Guild will present in public performances at. the Empire Theatre on February 15-16. and it was decided that members of the group who want reserved seats for the performance. will pay an extra twenty-five cents. The twenty-seven ltudj ﬁe yesterday entered upon their den- work in the six-weeks‘ agricultural short course at the Vocational school were addressed in the afternoon by Premier J. Walter Jones, Minister of Education; Hon. W. F. A. Stewart, Minister of Agriculture; and Dr. L. W. Shaw, Director of Education.

Both the Premier and Mr. Stewart emphasized the necessity of the young farmers acquiring some technical knowledge without which, they stated, the young farmer could not make s. success of his calling. Both stressed the fact. that the course was not. ex- haustive but both dweiled on the importance of thc young farmer securing some elementary knowl- edge of veterinary practices, field and animal husbandry. etc. if he were to be in a position to face with conﬁdence the complex agri- cultural problems which, they said,

Yesterday, Premler J. The Premier visualized the day when both truck and air traffic from the Province will cut heavily into the Canadian Nation- al Railways‘ revenue from carry- ing Island produce.

The Premier also mented on local plant is now shipping their last summers Island purchases of cucumbers to Guelph, Ont., for bottling. It was the Premier's opinion that there was l. splendid opportunity in the Province for a modern bottling plant where cucumbers. strawberries. and other Island products could be put Ilp in a finished condition.

TRINITY MISSION CIRCLE —- The annual meeting of ‘Trinity Mission Circle was held last night with an attendance of 22. Meet- ing opened with the business period. Roll call was answered with members paying feel. Articles are to be brought to next meeting for D.P.'s arriving at Halifax. The treasurer! annual report showed an increase over last year. The secretary reviewed the activities of the past year, showing an in- crease in membership. The civil jury case of Pamela Ross, Stanhope, infant, by George Ross, Stanhope (father of Patricia Ross). plaintiff, versus Harry W. McLaughlin, Stanhope, defend- ant, occupied the supreme Court all day yesterday and was Ml- journed until 10:30 this morning. 'l‘l1e plaintiff is asking damages from the defendant to the extent o: $10000 for injuries alleged to have been received in the de- fendant's store at. Stanliopc on May l3, 1947. The plaintiff charges that while in the de- fendant's store on the above date oil was thrown into the stove with the result that the store was burn- ed down and that she, the plain- tiff, received such burns as caused her to spend six months i-n the Charlottetown Hospital and er. additional six months in a Mon- treal hospital. Yesterday the following eight witnesses were heard: Phyllis Rose, stanhope (sister of Patricia Ross); George Grant and Everett Platte, Charlottetown; George Shaw, Stanhope; Dr. J. A. A presentation of diplomas and Red Cross pins to nineteen stu- dents, who recently completed the standard course in First Aid, was made on Friday evening in the Guide Room of St. Mary's Academy, Summer-side. The president of the local Red Cross branch. Mr. John E. Campbell, acted in the capacity of diainman and congratulated the instructor and the membe of the class who were rendering e major service in the community. Rt. Rev. G. J. The annual meeting of St. James Presbyterian Churcn was held last evening in the Kirk Hail. The min- ister, Rev. T.H.B. Somers, presided and opened the meeting with a short devotional service after which Mr. William Burnett was elected secretary of the business meeting. Reports from the various organi- zations of the Church were read, and it was noted that all offerings showed an increase and that there had been a. decided improvement tn Mission interest and givings. Satisfaction was expressed at the increasing attendances at the quarterly celebrations of the Holy Communion. Each had a. larger at» tendance than the corresponding observance in i947 which was itself a record year.

Island, occurred Dec. 18, 1948 ati San Gabriel, Calif. The late Ml.

Judson was in his 79th year. He

was the eon of George J. Judson

and Thankful Caroline Wood. After

leaving this Province he went to| New Bedford, Mass, where he- learned the trade of carpentry and which he still followed up until‘ his death.‘ In 1939 he last visited

his native Province. Surviving are‘ his wife, the former Amy S. Macy of New Bedford, and four daugh- ters and a son, all of California, a number of sisters and brothers liv- ing in Mass. also survive.

The death occurred at Long Beach, Calif, on January B. 1949 of J. Douglas MacIntosh, young- est. son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Charles C. Maclntosh of Victoria. PEI. He was a veteran of the First. World War and never fully regained his health after being badly gassed during that conﬂict. His funeral was held at Santa Ana. Calif. on January 12th and he was laid to rest beside his brothers Whitfield and Ray who predeceased him by several years. Surviving are three sisters: Mrs. Abner Howatt, Victoria, P.E.I.. Mrs. Joseph Irvine, Huntington Beach. Calif.. Mrs. Stetford Mul- lins, Hampton, PEI, and three brothers: Jack. Santa Ana. Calif, Mujpr, Puente, Calif. and Everett of Portland, Oregon.

At the January meeting of thc Trustee Board of the Protestant Orphanage, Mrs. H. S. Henderson, Chairman of Finances, giving her 22nd. annual financial statement. reported:

Total receipts of $30,256.32 for the year 1948. Of this total $10,980.63 was received from Estates and placed in the Endowment Fund. Although the expenses for the year reached an all-time high, it is worthy of note that for the 72nd. consecutive year the Orphanage showed a surplus.

The meeting was prelided over by the chairman of the Board, Mr. W. A. Stewart and wsl well ab; tended. Those coming from out- side the city were:—Mr. Heath Strong, K.C., Summerslde, Mr. Preston Kennedy, Kensington and Mr. E. S. Burleigh, Elierslie.

A number of other committee reports were ailo given and all showed that the year had been an all round succeu. The many friends of the institution, near and far will be pleased to lee by this brief statement that their assist- ance has helped greatly in bringing real success.

The communities of Aiberton and Ellershe were lhocked when the rapidly spreading news reached them that Mrs. Frederick Charles England of Alberton and Bldcford had been a victim of a fire of un- known origin in her Alberton home on Sunday. Dec.“l9th. Mrs. EngAand who was almost 77 years old at the time of her death was the former Miss Annie Currie of Springfield. Lot 8. P. E. I. She taught school in Alberton, Knutsford. Poplar Grove end Tyne Valley. Married to Frederick Charles England she liv- ed most of hcr life in Bldeford. Her husband passed away in July 1945. Since July 1946 she had been residing in Alberton. On Tuesday, Dec. 21st. citizens of Alberton and district gathered at the liome of Mr. and Mrs. Vernon England to pay their final respects. Senator Brewer W. Robinson, 58. died early today at. his home in Summerside. His death followed n comparatively brief illness. On Saturday he suffered a stroke and had been critically ill since. Previously, for several months he had been in failing health. Senator Robinson, although ltill a young man, had an active -II‘GSI‘ and leaves behind a long illt of accomplishments. He served over- seas in two World Wars, was May- or of Summerside for two terms and a member of the Prince Ed- ward Island Legislature. before he was appointed to the Senate. In addition he carried on various business activities.

Senator Robinson was a Ion of the late Mr. and Mrs. George W. Robinson of Wllmot Valley and was educated at the Summerside High School and Commercial Col- lege. Shortly after he left school he went to Western Canada where he worked for several years al an employee of the Union Bank of Canada.

He returned to Summerlide In 1914 on the outbreak of the First World War and was one of the first to enlist from the town. join- ing the 2nd Battery, Canadian Heavy Artillery. He went overseas in 1915 and served until the end of the war. During the latter pert of the conflict he was attached to headquarters at Rouen, France. When he returned to Canada in I919 he went into the fox ranching business with his father and later for himself. ,
