J C. Forses, the celebrated Canadian artist, was attacked with hemorrhage of the nose two days since, and is rapidly bleeding to death. He had been suffering from catarrh and injected patent medicines, which has so eaten away the covering of the arteries of the pose that they burst and all efforts of his medical attendants to check the flow of blood have failed.

Reporrs from the north, says the North Sydney Herald, are to the effect that the cod fishery during the past few weeks has been excellent. At Ingonich and Cape North the boats average from six to eight quintals daily. The catch of herring and mackerel is also good, but salmon are scaree. Sap Forrenes or A Cow.—One day IJast week the tide stranded the body of a cow on the Park shore. The keeper of the Park refused to have anything to do with the gift and tried to induce the ebb-tide to carry it Out again. The tide, however, also refused to claim the waif, and deposited it again this time, fortunately, for the Park Keeper, on the Government shore. Ita position here aroused the ire of a correspondent of Tyr Examiner, and at once, if not soomer, several shove!fulls of kindly earth hid the monster from sight. It was enough to have the old route to the Park closed, forcing pedestrians to take the shore. But any more incidents like the above will render a “ subway ” absolutely necessary

During the recent Presidential campaign. the State of New York was assigned to Mr, Finch a8 his field of labor on bshalf of Governor St. John, the Prohibition candidate. We regret to learn that Mr. W. B. Harshman,of the New London Packing Oo,, met with a serious accident on Thursday last. While driving to Park Corner his horse ran away, tle carriage upset, and Mr. Harshman was thrown violently to the gronnd. Medical aid was procured and he was carried to Mr. MeLeod’s factory where he sti!l lies in a precarious condition.

Pror. ZeERA AND THE Royat Marion- eTres.—This celebrated organization will appear at the Market Hall for four nights, beginning Wednesd«y, July 1st. Of Prof. Zera we can say no more than he had been here before and gave ail he promised. The Marionettes are said to be a wonderful show in themselves, giving minstrel, vaudi- ville and the comical Pantomine Humpty Dumpty. They carry a carload of scenory which is said to be something grand. Be- sides this wonde:fal enteriainment, there will be given away one hundred elegant and valuable presenisat each show, This being the first enteriainment here this season, and the attractions offered, we -doudt not but the hall will be crowded at each show. The admission has been placed from 25 to 35 cents.

Cuitprens’ Service —The ‘‘ Children’s Service” in St. James’ Church on Sabbath morning was largely attended. The Sab- bath School scholars, who were out in full force with their teachers, occupied the front and side gallery of the Church. They joined heartily in singing the hymns which were selected specially for the occasion, and also took part with the Pastor in reading the Scripture lessons. The sermon was from the Song of Solomon ii., 15: ‘' Take us the foxes, the little foxes that spoil our vines; for our vines have tender grapes.’ In itthe preacher pointed out to the chil- dren a number of little foxes, or little sins, which, if not taken now and destroyed, would spoil and ruin their prospects for this world and also the world to come. He also laid down a number of ‘‘ little duties ” which must be attended to in the morning of life. They must begin life well if they would end it well, and must remember their Creator in the days of their youth. The illustrations used were apt and telling, an’ the discourse could not fail to be pro- ductive of good. The whole service was impressive to young and old alike.
