A London special says the post office at Manchester is in flames and will be destroy. ed. All telegraph corwmunication with London is now (1215 a.m.) suspended. Great alarm: is felt in London, as there are plain indications that the fire was set by incendiaries, and it is believed by many persons that this indicates an intention to erganize disturbances in England in aid of the Land League in Ireland. A fire oceurred at the central telegraph office at Manchester on Sunday, and two hundred wires converging there were melted and the whole system of telegraph wire terminating in Manchester was destroyed. Communicalion with Manchester by tele- graph cannot be completely restored for some days.

A mereor of unasual brilliancy was seen from this city shooting from north to south, at 8 o'clock on Tuesday evenins. It was visible for four or five secords, and cast a bright light over the town similar to that from a Jarge rocket.

_ Etsven Mex, were poisoned at Lake Henry St. Martins, N, B., on Satarday last, by eat- ing pork. The poisoning was not fatal but very serious. The pork was imported from the United States, and is said by Decters, to be in some way discased.

Tus Reason. —Mr. B. McLeod writes from Sussex stating that the reason Mr. Dover's Lady Bagnall, did not put in an appearance on the Moncton Limerick on Wednesday last, to trot ‘‘ Annie Ethel,” was because she was completely prostrated with the horse dis- temper. Mr. McLeod further states that he expects to trot a race with the Moncton mare as soon as Lady Bagnall recovers from her sickness.— Moncton Times

Prior. ‘‘ Canadian” cleared to-day for Hamilton, Bermuda, with the following cargo, shipped by Wright & Macgown :— 1138 barrels potatoes, 800 lbs oatmeal, 486 sacks oats, 72 hams, 12 tons hay, 8 cords .wood, 62 tons coal, 8 cows, 154 sheep, 250 geese, 28 half barrels mackerel, 2 barrels eggs—valued at $3,000. James KE. McDon- ald, Esq., owner of the vessel, accompanied the cargo and is interested with shippers.

Heavy Loss.—The steamships Ayton, for Bristol, and Hurworth, fer London, which left Montreal on September 29th, encountered some tremendously rough wea- ther and heavy seas while crossing the Atlantic, resulting in heavy losses of live stock. The Ayten had on board 143 cat- [tle and 136 sheep for Alderman McShane, — the Hurworth 99 cattle and 202 sheep

for the same shipper. The latter vessel has lost its entire cargo of cattle, and the former about two-thirds of her shipment.

The business of the firm has forthe past two anda half years been transacted by the senior member—Mr. James Corby—who has, during that period, kept up a most honerakle busingss and social intercourse with his many customers on Prince Edward Island, and has thus succeeded in gaining the confidence of every firm with which he had any-transac- tious. Weunderstand that Mr. Corby will, at no distant date, return to the Provinces to prosecute a business on his own account. If so, there is no doubt that his, hitherto, num- erous customers will renew—even more fully, the patronage which they heretofore 80 liberally extended to the firm.
