The minutes of a special meet- ing held on November 28 were read at which an application by the Island Telephone Co. Ltd. to build a new building on Church Street was rejected as being con- trary to the building regulations.

The clerk read a letter from the public health nurse Miss Eleanor Wheler which gave a report, on the operations oi’ the dental clinic for the past year. This clinic is available to children up to 12 years of age whose parents are unablevto pay. Seventy-nine chil- dren were treated lest year. On motion of Councillor Morrison. seconded by Councillor Wedge. the grant of $100 made by the Town to the clinic was renewed for the year 1945-46

Councillor Morrison announced he would bring in a suggestion to the incoming council that the domestic light rate and powzr rate on household appliances be lowered. He said that the plant is running to capacity at present and ncw that the war is over electric appliances will soon be on the market. He felt that quite a substantial reduction of the rates could be made without any reduc- tion ln revenue.

Councillor Gorrlll said he was in accord with this suggestion as he felt it was time there was some reduction in the light rates.

Councillor Wedge suggested that plans should be considered with regard to the clay streets and whether it would be possible . to pave any of them. “Certainly,” he said, "we can't carry on much longer with them in the condition they are in new)’.

Councillor Gorill said it was his intention, if he was on the council and the money ‘has avail- able, to have all the clay streets ditched and gravelled next year and they would then be prepared for any paving program that might be instituted.
