The first week is over and so is full week of work Union. Our first Council meeting is set up for this Sunday evening and will have already occured by the time this issue of the Cadre comes out.

The first week was a mix— ture of the good and the bad. The first Pig n' Whistle on last Friday evening left the Barn in a dirty, damaged con— dition. To add insult to in— jury, someone stole two chairs from the Panther Lounge last weekend ( Sept.

5 — 7 ) and no sign of them has been seen since. Their return would be appreciated, especially by the two people who will have to stand up at Pig n' Whistles from now on- This might be useless to say so, but I feel that the Barn and every part of'it is the property of all the students. Why don't we make an effort to keep it a bit cleaner and refrain from ripping off chairs and punching holes in

walls. .

Our executive meeting of the week was held on Wednes— day and we had a good meet- ing. The majority of the business discussedeas gener— al material that is to go be— fore Council Sunday evening. We hope to do some work in the area of Student Aid, and specifically in the area of student loans. The National Union of Students and the At- lantic Federation of Stdents are beginning to attempt to unite all provinces in favor of one loan scheme: The A. F. S. held a conference in St. John's in May which Tom Hayward and myself atten— ded. That meeting attended by 13 Atlantic colleges and universities, came out in fa— vor of the loan plan recent- ,ly adopted‘in Newfoundland. Memorial University works on a three semester system and each student is eligible for $900 loan and $1800 bursary pg; semester. The provinci— al government is setting up a council of five, including

one U.P.E.I. student,

on this matter. I'm sure no one wants to graduate from college oweing $4000 - $5000, but it is happening. There will be more on this issue later.

Well, what else happened over~the week? I guess the " Sons of Erin ", the band which I booked for Thursday night's Pig, did not meet with popular approval. Oh well, a few people liked them. I guess we'll get back to the usual type of band this week. I'm not sure yet who is playing; it's going to be a band, a good one, from Halifax. That much I do know. By the way,'Downchi1d Blues Band is coming on Dec. 4th. I . We still do not have any- one to serve as electoral of- ficer. Help! We need some— one. Also, Octoberfest, which we have tentatively planned for Oct. 30th, 3lst, and Nov. lst, is in desparate
